I just finished setting up the vbar (5.1.8) gov with a YGE 90HV ESC using the Hyperion phase sensor.
The heli is a 10S L600 on a Scorpion 4035-560 w/ 11T pinion.

I am running it in normal 'Electric' mode. I have headspeeds set for 1750, 1950 & 2150.

First flights were very impressive with default gov settings. There was no surging at all and the spool-up and auto-recovery spool-up was working quite well.

Now for the fun part - getting it tweaked to perfection!
On 1950 the gov is holding very well. On 2150 the gov is perfect. However, on 1750 it is slightly bogging at full collective maneuvers. Any ideas on what setting to adjust? Should I be using the 'expert - bank switching' mode to tweak the 1750 HS independently?

How does it compare to the std gov store on the YGE?

I was running on gov store before the vbar gov. It is better on the vbar gov.
One quark that the YGE had on the internal gov was a very noticeable tail kick (20 degrees) at 1800 & 1950 rpm at quick full collective punch outs. You could really hear the tail trying to correct it. I tried all i&p gains to try and get rid of it - nothing worked. The YGE gov just seemed too delayed in correcting the HS and then using too much throttle to catch up.

With the vbar gov the tail was rock solid.

Furthermore, the YGE gov does not have the auto-bailout mode - which I really look forward to playing around with.

I never had an issue with tail kicks on hard collectives but i know you are using a different motor and it did not like freewheel on so it could be different. What did you need to do to setup the YGE to work the vbar gov?

I used the YGE programming card to turn the gov off and set the Startup Speed to 'Plane fast'.

To get vastly different headspeeds to fly perfect you need to venture into banked setup and tweak the settings, mainly the curve, add more precomp by running steeper curve.

Do note that at that headspeed (1750) tail will have issue keeping up

Always wanted to try a YGE esc... Assume it is on par with the Jives? Opinions?

I think that question deserves it's own thread. But imho the YGE is not as good as Kontronics (I own both).

I own 3 jives and 4 YGE's. i like the YGE gov store better but the JIVE Bec better. I tested out that issue you had with the tail kick at low RPM and its odd on my BeastX it does it but my Futaba gyro it doesnt, its rock solid. I wonder if there is a setting on GY701 that compensates or something.

Nah its just that the default P/I routine in the gy701 is better.
Its possible to tweak the beastx too, especially now when UI is out with revmix/precomp.
And there is other ways to tweak the MB too, the tail Led setting actually change background parameters.

I figured it was some setting because it seems odd but i was able to reproduce it on my Outrage when i set the throttle curve under 70% i could see exactly what he was talking about. For the most part both the jive and yge's gov seem to work identical with minor differences with how they handle mode 11 and gov store. I wll have to download the beastx software and see if i can tweak a bit although i keep my HS higher during normal flight so it may be less of an issue.

I recieved settings from Heino from YGE for the vbar gov (from a fellow pilot from another forum). Maybe its of some help:

Gov. = off
Startup Speed = plane middle oder Plane fast
PWM-Frequency = 10 kHz
Startup Power = Auto oder 2%

I guess the Startup speed is the key, the PWM would depent on the motor. I have a Neu 1907h 1y which some seem to run at 8 or 10 pwm but mine only runs smooth on 12 pwm !!!

One question

Does the vbar gov with the Hyperion sensor also offer the advantage of gov store on the YGE? Constant rpm during the whole flight and with every lipo?

yes - the vbar gov will hold a constant rpm regardless of starting pack voltage (up until it is giving 100% throttle to the motor and the motor can't satisfy the demand).

Sounds great. Is there any news on when the new firmware will be released. The one mr Mel used with the improved soft start:

YGE works anyway, yes it will be even smoother with that FW but no issue on the current one

Hi Mr. Mel,

Do you know if I should use plane mid or plane fast?

If you get stuttering/chirping (you know when you hear it) and hqve to run very low governor gain to get rid of it, then its time to set plane-middle and raise back the governor gain.

(it will differ depending on motor, timing etc)

Thank you mr Mel

The 2 vids I saw sounded great. Did you have more % in the lipos left with the vbar gov?
