I noticed lately that I have a significant play between the pinion and the inner part of the bottom bearing form the pinion bearing block, see for instance https://rc.runryder.com/t527306p1/?highlight=pinion.

Now…The transmission (pinion + bearing block + clutch) was redesigned for the new VIBE 50 NEX. It can solve the “infamous” problem of aligning the motor also known as humming.

Here is the question:
Anyone knows if the clutch bell bearing block (JR 60157) + pinion (JR 96181) from VIBE 50 3D can be replaced by the pinion bearing case (JR61335) + pinion (JR96479) from VIBE 50 NEX?

It would be a nice fix.

It looks that there are not too many vibes 50 around.
Today I continued to fly my V3D until the sound coming from the helicopter changed to a higher tone. So I bring it to the ground and noticed that the main gear was almost polished.

I still wander how I managed to fly it the last 20 meters.

We know why it happened.

JR service for helicopters
One day before my last flight with my V3D, I wrote an e-mail to @horizonhobby for support in this mater, see my first entry; total silence so far.

Who can give support for the helicopters at JR. Is there any other way to get product support for these helicopters? How does it work? JR parts are expensive and trial an error is something that I do not. Local hobby shops to stock JR parts are not everywhere.

To this moment I have no reaction from @horizonhobby.
What a great support for the JR helicopters!

Its too bad you can't get the help you need from JR! I have a NEX coming in the mail today. Would be glade to post any pics or measure anything that might help. Just let me know...thanks!

Dear Kelly,

Many thanks for your help!

Below are the dimensions form vibe 50nex I need for comparison. I also have one additional question. Please have a look next. What I need to determine is if the distance from the holes of the pinion bearing case and the bottom of the pinion are the same for both vibes. At least for vibe 50 3D I measured 18mm + 6 mm. (a_vibe 3D=6mm)

d_nex=? (diameter of the bottom thread of the pinion)
a_nex=?
b_nex=? (this one should be longer)

d_vibe 3D=9mm
a_vibe 3D=6mm
b_vibe 3D=11mm

The top part of the pinion goes into a ball bearing identical with the one from V50 3D.

Additional question: Could you confirm that the ball bearing 81005 is vertically centered between the holes of the pinion bearing case?

Thank you!
Cristian

Any conclusions? Will the NEX parts work in the older Vibe 50??

Unfortunately I have no answer regarding the compatibility with the new vibe 50 nex. It would be nice to have somebody giving the dimensions from above.

What I did was to order the original parts.

On a closer inspection of the clutch, I realized that due to the wobbling of the clutch bell 96182 the small bearing at bottom of the clutch bell made its way upwards. This resulted in decreasing the distance between the top of the flywheel and the top inner side of the clutch bell. I had to change the clutch bell too. My opinion is that sooner or later these parts will fail in the old vibe 50.

The message is that: with the old design the ball bearing 81005, the pinion 96181 and the clutch bell 96182 have to be periodically inspected. Once you notice wear of a part you have to be prepared to change it. I would say that a good practice would be to change the pinion and the large bearing at the same time.

In the new design of vibe 50 nex, the pinion is locked to the shield bearing 10x19x7 with a nut. Therefore instead of changing the pinion and the bearing at the same time, you only have to change the bearing. Probably the pinion play will develop somewhat later, but I doubt that the problem is totally fixed.

In my opinion a reasonable good design is in the Synergy N5 where the upper part of the pinion couples not to one bearing, but with two bearings over a total length of 10mm. Also a larger one way bearing is used in the clutch free wheel.

My conclusion
Periodic check of the pinion play is advisable for both models of Vibe 50. If the play issue is not fixed as soon is detected you should expect that the clutch bell will be damaged. Ultimately the plastic gear 87t will be damaged and you may end up with a crashed helicopter.

Best regards

Thanks for all the details.

Nothing is perfect. Would still like to know if the new parts will fit. I'll probably eventually break down and get a NEX, but I have two Vibe 50s one flying and on in the box, so no hurry to ditch a perfectly fine model.
