I’ve been fighting to get good smooth video for some time now. I have a 3-axis Mark 4 mount from helicamsolutions, trex 700e with DJI, and a Cannon T2i 550D camera set on video mode. Still pictures are a breeze but video has been tough to capture clean. Looking at my captured video, it seems the mount is wobbling a bit. The picture I included shows I have the mount dangling by four bungee cords a little below the heli skids but not touching it. The camera is stabilized by Hitech HS5485 servos and Futaba 401 gyros and I have a JR 9503 controlling the camera mount

I’m going to try turning off the gyros next time to see if that might be causing the wobbles. I could also try tightening the mount against the heli skids. It has been very wind lately so that could also be some of the reason for the bad videos. I also have a Cannon point and shoot camera that captures video that I could put on the mount and see how the video looks on a different camera.

The heli looks pretty stable in the air but I should bring it in close and make sure it’s not causing any of this. That’s all I got for now. I will be doing some more tests this weekend. Any ideas please let me know.

Your mount is too soft. Make the bungee tighter so it is not dangling as much.

Tighten the bungee cords.
You are dealing with a "pendulum effect".

Roger that
Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I'll tighten up the bungee cords so the mount touches the foam on the skids. I'll report back after some tests this weekend.

Thanks!

Try your other camera in Video mode. The Canon DSLR's, or any DSLR can be tough to get clean video from untill you have it dialed in ( I dont yet).
I have the same issue when I use my T2i. Then I put a sony handycam on the same mount/bird and it looks much better.

Try to isolate the issue ( camera? or Mount?)

Do you have picloc on your pan axis? If so how does that work when you turn into yourself? Looking for something better than a 401 on the pan

Another test......FAIL
I did a couple flights last Friday with low winds of 10mph or less. I tightened up the straps on the mount so they touch the foam on the skids. I left the gyros on for both flights. I didn’t see much improvement in the video using either of my cameras. I was fighting a swash issue so I wasn’t messing with the video much during the flight. I had to add 15 clicks of right aileron trim to get the swash level on Friday for both flights. I just powered up the electronics now and put the trim back to center and it appears to be nice and level like is should be. That is very strange.

Next time I’m out, I’m going to try shooting video with the gyros off. I could try increasing the head speed a bit. I’m currently at 1700.

It is possible that my mount is not ridged enough. This mark 4 mount is all plastic. I bet one of those metal mounts with the ring style gimble would be real sweet. I may have to try that next. Anybody have a used one for sale?

It seems like a gap between rotation and not rotation parts (loosening)
If you have little gap like 1-2mm you take these results.
Believe it or not before 2 years had the same problem from a loosening servo..
I bet your gimbal has a little movement if you move it with your hand at the top (pan servo)

Swash issue pinpointed...
My swash issue I have found out is directly related to a problem with my DX8 transmitter. I look at the monitor function on my aileron pot and it jumps around a bunch with no stick movement. I have also noticed the center point is way off to the left. If I flick the aileron stick a few times I can get it to return to center but it gradually deviates after its moved again. I only really was able to figure this out when I bound the DX8 to my Skookum 720 flybarless unit. It must be much more sensitive than the DJI because I could see the aileron servos jittering at center position. I don’t visually see the jitter with the DJI, but in the software it definitely shows it. This may possibly have an effect on video but I doubt it. Need to send the transmitter in to HH and wait.
