I Broke the plastic ring from the pull starter that comes out and engages to the motor on the 4th startup. I have a feeling that ring is going to brake often especially during the breaking period. I'm looking for the part but I only find complete starters, does anyone know where I can buy that part? I think Zenoah is made by Husqvarna (or opposite), I'm wondering if the starter part are exchangeable.

They're both correct , It's all about if you want to go with a stock "plastic" replacement or a metal upgrade .

Contact one of the engine modifiers
He's got a ton of them in a bucket I picked up some spares when I visited him a couple of years ago.

On your starting, you should engage the starter first before yanking the chord. If you yank and engage all in the same motion, you'll slam the ring into the engine dogbone and eventually break it.

When you rebuild your pull starter, be careful not to let the spring uncoil. It is like a "surprise box" and is quite difficult to get back in the pull-start.

I have two years on my plastic starter ring with no problems. Of course I watched Raja's viseo on how to properly start your engine

One mile of road will take you one mile. One mile of runway will take you anywhere in the world.

I ordered two metal rings that should arrive tomorrow. I'm shopped around for the full metal version but was not able to get one for the weekend.

I do make sure that the starter is engaged before pulling but I think it backfired on me. I'm a bit nervous starting this motor, I'm holding it (starter and motor) with my other hand because I don't want to put any strain on the frame. Someday, I will try Raja's Yoga pose "foot on the table" as shown in his Jewel video

Now that's funny!

But I think Helizrule meant my youtube video of how to start a Spectra-g just do a search on that and its easily findable. This way you don't have to be 6 foot plus tall to get your foot on the table

Back when I was breaking in the Zenoah 231, I too thought that I'd be going through starter rings like crazy, until I started using Raja's technique.

Pull very lightly just until you feel the starter engaging, and only then pull to start. End of problems!

If you have a very large displacement high compression engine, even following that technique you will still break the plastic pull-start ring and even snap the string on your pull starter.

Killer rc, has some VERY strong string for the pullstarts, it's being used right now in the 1/5 scale car starters. DDM sells it also if interested, plus ddm sells the metal pawls. Turtle racing is coming out with a extremely durable pullstart assembly with ballbearings soon, but will only fit the zen and cy car motors.

Not necessarily. I agree with Raja's video, it's all about technique.

My Hanson 26, 29, Wally 30, none have had any plastic ring breakage or string breakage, and all have used the same pull start, moved from one engine to another, and it's stock with the plastic ring.

Of course if one is having starting difficulties, pulling 30 or 40 times to get it to fire, then yes stuff can break.

Maybe it was just my motor that caused the string to break.
