That looks terrific. Can't wait to see the final flight vid. Great work! I ordered one of Turbinators tail mods along with the SS pin.

Hi Butch,

Couple of quick questions if that's ok: Do you know what the HS and Fene speed are? Did you shoot for a particular ratio of one to the other or just "dial it in" til it felt right?

Are the speedos hooked up with a wye to the HC3?

If I'm asking you to give away secret info, by all means tell me to go...well, you know.

Thank you.

deanguy,

"Turbinator" here on RR makes a control assembly for the fan. Its a real nice piece. The geometry is an improvement over the stock control assembly and it can allow greater travel.

jocko,

No secrets here. The head speed is turning 1350 and the fan is 10k. On the main mechanics, the guts are T-Rex 700 with a 11.5 to 1 ratio. The motor size is based on knowing about what head speed was desired. The tail is 1 to 1.

The speeds are governed by the ESC's. A "throttle to throttle" program mix is used to couple the two. Raise the collective just off the low stop and the motors advance to ground idle. The flight mode switch is used to advance the Nr and fan speed to flight idle.

The fan needed to be above 9k to even think about working correctly. The fans performance also depends on the weight of the heli. More weight, more torque on the main, more anti torque needed.

The starting point was 1250 Nr and 8500 fan speed just to see that things worked and there was positive control over the heli. It was OK but a little sluggish. Speeds were adjusted after each set of flight to the current settings.

C-2 started with 655 semi main blades and went to a shorter, smaller cord 620 symm blades. The were much lighter too. This livened up the head, This along with a speed increase made it pretty nimble.
The fan, the speed was increased until it felt solid and did what was asked of it.

One other inquiry.. when you put it back together can you post pics of how you have the tail motor installed? I was planning on using Joker 3DD parts which are ideal for spinning a torque tube inside of a boom.. But I'm curious to see how you have done it.. Thanks! You are starting a whole new "trend" for Fenestron setups that actually work..

UIH,

Starting re-assembly after paint. This is when all the little details start to come together.

Made some new gear legs with some detail schnizzle. I am thinking brakes.
