Mike you act like that is supposed to make sense. $700 is $700. I'm not a cheap person and make purchases based on perceived need or value. I find it impossible to justify in any way shape or form that a 90 size model helicopter engine and a muffler are worth $700.

Well that's why we have options.

You could opt not to purchase that combo and simply by the engine for $400 on it's own, dd a $180 pipe and save yourself $120 bucks.

It looks like a promising motor. Alan Szabo was flying it in AL. but have not heard any other feedback from him or anyone else for that matter. The price, does seem extreme though, even with a pipe included. I mean that pipe, better be gold plated, if you know what I mean.

The bottom line here IMO, is that with new motors coming in the pipe line, Nitro is not going anywhere, it's here to stay for awhile! Now as far as a 120 OS, I can't see it happening, too much motor for the existing cases. You can only fit so much bore in a motor case. I think YS will have problems with their bold move .

That cost will get you in a pretty good 50 size helicopter.

Should be like electronics are they are produced the price should come down.

I'll pass for now, O.S. needs to come out with a larger motor to keep up with the on going market. I'm guessing another year or so.

Thanks,
Chris

The engines are essentially the same as before. The carbs may be a tad better, the HP is a tad higher, the colour is different. Why tack on added expense when nothing has drastically changed?

A locally sponsored O.S pilot here is using them as says the engine is has a noticeable amount of more power over the 91 HZ R. He was using the HZR with a Hatori pipe and MP6, he says the new 3D speed is based on the M-Speed range and the OS pipe is a revised Funtech one.

The O.S funtech one works best in his opinion.

Show me the numbers of more power, tested in a controlled environment and I will believe it.

I have no doubt the new motors are great. I am a big O.S. fan, I just want some thing new not repainted. A nice big 120 with no vibration to make monster power. That would be nice. Dreaming big!

Thanks,
Chris

have you seen the backplate? seems like there is going to be an issue with getting the spektrum style backplate sensor on them as well. os may be having their own backplate sensor, so there is another added cost

But of course. He is a sponsored pilot. Nothing but good to say about their product. I will admit, I have loved O.S. engines from my first foray into R/C a few decades ago and I am still quite loyal, but it's hard to believe the "hype" after a while. I don't buy a new I.C. engine each time a new model comes off the drawing board no matter how well it's packaged or painted.

What a bunch of Negatrons!
Take a look at RC car engine prices and you will see how good we have it in the Heli scene! $700 is a bit steep for motor and pipe but that will come down when everyone has them in stock and the battle for your bucks begins!

If the difference between the HZ-R and the Speed tuned HZ-R is the same as the 21VZ-B V's Speed tuned 21VZ-B then you can put me down for two of them!

The tube in the back plate is for the Futaba crank sensor but there is plenty of room for the spektrum sensor either side at the mid stroke point which works just fine!

I will be interested to know if the cooling head is magnesium with an aluminium head button, this will make it much esier to optimise the combustion chamber volume and squish clearence with out adding shims

This engine is only producing .2 hp more but do you know how much more torque it produces? because that is what you should be looking at. A prime example is the HZ v the SZ, both have the same claimed peak power yet the HZ definitly produces more torque!

LOL Jeff! Is that the same JP with the sleeved down OS28 Xz
I ran the RB Speedline .12 motors in my 1/10th on road cars at $600 a pop plus pipe so $ per cube a 91 should set you back a few $K
Pro spec Novarossi 21 @ $600+ Yep that's cheap!?
The price of engines at the moment is the least of our worries in the RC heli world, try travelling by air with LiPo's or without removing your motor and tank from your heli.
By all reports the Speed tuned 91 is a power house and I know alot of people who want that power now, not when YS finally get the 120 or ThunderTiger get the 110 on the shelves for public consumption!

There are a few pipes out there that work really well. I can't say out of all of them which is the "best" but whats been working well on my engines is the FunTech B301 903D.

It's got a great sound and gobs of power, it's also hard mounted so no need to replace grommets.

I won't talk about price here, but let me tell you ths 3D I have is a monster, for me it has way more power than the HZ (don't know about HZ-R). Torque is impressive, consistent run and it looks good .
I think it's a winner and I love it.

Oh, I paid for it with my hard earned money and I don't care if people think I paid too much (which I didn't BTW)

Just got my HZ-R Speed 3C today.

It's such a beautifully machined piece of work.

I'm not touching YS ever again.

Took me less than 5 minutes to dial indicate the fan to less than 1/4 thou. I'm glad they got rid of the woodruff key.

Looking forward to see how this engines compares with the YS 91ST that it's replacing.
