Thank you!!! Any chance you'd be able to tell me the diameter of the outer swash ball? In other words, if you drew a circle around the 3 outer swash balls, what's the diameter? Hard to measure this, I know.

Last request...what's the diameter of the awash anti-rotation pin?

Center of mainshaft to center of an outer ball is 39.5mm? That would make the swash outer ball circle diameter 79mm?

I tried this mod on a 450 with a vbar and it worked ok but the resolution was a problem, the gains were turned way down. When I switched to flybarless grips I was able to turn my gains up higher which resulted in better flight characteristics.

Thanks az_heliguy!

Here's a pic of what I'm wanting to do. It's an old helicopter that I want to try and adapt a Trex 600 FBL head to. Swashplate is about 33mm from center of mainshaft to center of ball. I think it's likely I'd be better off with your mod than going to FBL grips. Outer swash ring is 66mm, inner swash ring is 38mm. Can I ask one more favor? Want to know the distance from inner swash ball to center of mainshaft.

Anyone know if the ball on this:
HN6116 Align 600FL Linkage Ball
http://www.align.com.tw/shop/produc...roducts_id=3139
is the same size ball that comes with H60163QF blade grips
http://www.align.com.tw/shop/produc...roducts_id=2995

I ordered the H55047 linkage set and they don't fit on the balls.
http://www.align.com.tw/shop/produc...roducts_id=3441

The odd thing is the 600 size linkage balls are SMALLER than the links for the 550. How many different sized balls and ball links are there?

Thanks, Scot

here are the 2 part numbers that are needed for the 600. not sure what the part numbers are for the 550 or 700, although the linkage rod set is for the 600 and 700.

1 x AGNHN6116 Align 600FL Linkage Ball
1 x AGNHN7100A Align 600/700FL Linkage Rod Set (A)

my calipers crapped out, so ill have to get new batteries tomorrow and ill let you know.

I used this modified/flip the grips option for a couple of years (took the servo arm lengths down to 11.5mm centers, and used one servo pushrod). I also used a Mikado Swashdriver and a Quick UK swash.

I recently bought a set of Align FBL grips and headblock. The longer grip link to spindle center (~31mm on FBL vs ~27mm on FB'd) has further improved my servo resolution. This has allowed me to increase my FBL system gains (using Gyrobot 900 btw) and has resulted in a more solid FBL setup imho.

Of course, the new grips and headblock, all matched to my other silver cnc bits, looks fantastic! The new grips and headblock only cost me ~$80 and I think they were well worth it.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Cheers,
TomC

Sorry, this is a little off topic but just in case anyone wants to know...there are two sizes of Align balls/links. The FBL blade grip to swashplate balls are 5mm OD, pushrods are 2.5mm. All other balls/links are 4.75mm, 2mm pushrods. Flybar blade grip balls are 4.75mm.

4.75 is close to most other ball links I have from various other helicopters. 5mm OD is not common, I have yet to find any other link in my box of junk that will fit.

scoty,

I find that the MA and Mikado 2.5 mm links, with a little work with a ball resizing tool, work very well. I made my own 2.5 mmm pushrods with 2.5mm stock and tap/died them.

If you want a plug-and-fly you might be better off just buying the Align upgrade FBL head (or FBL kit).

Cheers,
TomC

Thanks, Tom. I found some Mikado 2.5 links and they work great for this. Can you tell me about your Mikado swash driver?
What I'd like to know is, if the radius links were perfectly vertical on it, what would be the swash inner ball circle diameter? Since I am using the Align head on a non-Align helicopter, the Align 600 swash driver isn't ideal. My swashplate inner diameter is smaller so the radius links are angled inwards. It might work but less than ideal.

scoty,

If mikado swash driver arms were straight/level the dia of the links would be ~40mm. On my Trex600 Quik UK swash (also using Mikado swash balls) my links actually lean outward a little when the swash driver arms are level. I don't think it matters much if they lean in or out a little. Just make sure that there is no binding or danger of the arms camming over at extreme ends of Collective pitch and full cyclics.

Mikado recommends to have their swashdriver arms very slightly upward at mid-stick zero pitch since this will give you the max +/- swash movement range. Personally, I just set them level at mid-stick and I get +/-12 deg Collective, 10 deg cyclic, no problem.

Cheers,
TomC

Thanks for that info, Tom. Sounds like the Mikado part will work better for me...but, wow, they want a lot for it...$49! Oh, well...will try to pick one up.

here are the parts needed...

1 x AGNHN6116 Align 600FL Linkage Ball
1 x AGNHN7100A Align 600/700FL Linkage Rod Set (A)
So is this all I will need to do the FBL head mod?Kinda broke and have just enough for the FBL system but not the head.I wanna do this on my 600LE head so all i'll need is them 2 part's and flip the grip's right?

basically...

little mod needs to happen to the washout base so it becomes the swash follower as well, but no parts needed for that.

Is it Possible to do this upgrade without flipping the grips?
I was wondering if it would be possible to do this upgrade without flipping the grips. I was wondering if changing the swashmix from + to - or vice versa would allow this mod without flipping the grips. I have a 600 nitro LE and would like to keep the grips as is since the align logo is on the top of the grip. Flipping it is no big deal but just not a preference. I have nver done flybarless but am thinking of doing this conversion with the microbeast. This post is a little old now and I am also wondering if this is still a good conversion? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It makes no diference as long as there is zero delta angle where the ball is connected, and you can set the correct directions in the FBL unit.
