I put the pic on my desktop and it seemed to show up a little better..

Uses the same main gear as the ENV so probly close to the exsisting location. Lost the radio tray, and bellcranks.. Easy to see where the weight savings came from..
I Can't wait to get my mitts on one..

I don't know if this has been confirmed or not, but is the canopy different? Thinner profile??? It would make sense for the Ballistic name.

I will go on record saying I want a thinner canopy much like the one on the little Rave. I think shape wise it is one of the nicest canopies around. I love mine.

Thanks,

The battery is so far in front because I am flying it without the canopy. That changes the CG. With the canopy the battery will be right at the front but not hanging out that much.

And yes, my radio installations are notoriously sloppy looking.

When Brian first came to work with me he was ultra clean with the radio install on my stuff. After working with me for a while his looks just like mine. He knows you will spend twice the time pulling it all apart and putting it back together when it is neat. My way looks bad but is very fast and practical with what I do.

So for good or bad, brians would look about the same on my machine.

Can you guys please explain how the batteries are held into the helicopter? Must the canopy be removed in order the replace the batteries?

I have to admit the first time I met Curtis I was in awe of him as a pilot and back then (Futura SE days... hence the screen name of mine) it was Mt. Pleasant, TX FF and he had a nice, clean machine and he pulled the canopy off and I was flabergasted. I thought it was a joke.

After he flew again I was back to being in awe, but... I found out quickly why and if I tested as much I'd invest in zip ties and call it good.

It looks like the final product will be worth the wait for sure. Thanks for update Curtis.

You could get the batteries out the back. But it is easiest to take them out the front. The canopy, like the ENV pops right off, no screws, and you get the battery out.

But again you could take them out the back if you want to.

Curtis, are you any closer to knowing if you'll offer an extended boom for 800mm blades as an option as I'd rather go with the Ballistic as opposed to the L700? Got a set of 813mm Edges ordered today. Will you be selling 800mm blades anytime soon?

Thanks

I would very much like to see an extended boom on the Ballistic. I don't want to run 800's, but I sure would like to try some 725's though. Adding 10-15mm to the tailboom and TT can't be too hard for sure. Of course all this is worthless without some Radix 725 FBL's. I personally don't care for Edge FBL blades. They have no pop at all. Radix crush them and auto 1000 times better.

Whoa! Direct to swash?? Interesting! I've always wondered about this on 90Es as won't servos get sloppy from the lateral load placed on them? The good thing about bellcranks/push pull is the servos only experience rotary loads. With DTS, could always have support bearing braces like on the MA Stratus etc.

Thing is who knows how much force is required to change the pitch of FBL blades? I'd say they would be neutral, i.e. no force required to hold any pitch other than 0 degs. That would suit DTS.

Not surprised the lipos are so far out front due to the tail servo on the boom & no canopy on. A few helis have similar CG issues like the T-Rex 700E with its tail servo at the back as well.

It's hard to tell in the pic looks like the ESC is up front and the Total G at the back?

Looks like a 90 size CF version of a very popular German heli! Not that there is anything wrong with that!

Can't wait to see more detailed pics of this beast!

Check out the tail blade grips, do they look a tad less bulky to anyone? Possibly metal? Kind of hard to see but it just popped out to me .

Looks the same to me. I like the plastic grips, very easy to service & smooth as. Metal tails can be a PITA & cause all sorts of vibration issues.

Brian said 80% of ENV parts are used in the Ballistic. The only thing different are the frames/lack of plastic nose up front & the servo layout.

No idea if the mainshaft is shorter & the bottom bearing block done away with.

I hope the canopy shape isn't too different as love the ENV one although narrower would be good for more speed! Could possibly be thinner/lighter. Definitely different mounting hole positions looking at the CAD drawing.

Better pic from Curtis' blog on Allmyrc or link if can't see pic; http://www.allmyrc.com/forums/blogs...2-11-blog-1.jpg

Curtis, please include at least 2 lipo trays in each kit with the option of buying more in packets of 2 as well!

Looks like the ESC is mounted up front on the side of the frames? I can see slots for straps. Wonder if Curtis made a horizontal CF plate at the rear that is slotted into the frames like the ESC plate on the T-rex 700E so that FBL systems can be mounted on? Would be a PITA to mount straight onto the gearbox as have to remove it in order to get the boom out not to mention vibrations from the TT gears.

Plus looks like the mast collar is on top of the bearing block therefore no 3rd bearing block! You can see the top of the lipo where that block would be anyway. I hope 2 plastic blocks are rigid enough. The T-Rex has only 2 blocks but they're metal & work well (bearings don't last as long though in metal blocks due to no damping & blade strikes on ground.) Whereas with 3 blocks, plastic is good enough. Mast collar on top is easier for sure, no need to undo everytime remove mainshaft!

So now i wonder
will the ENV electric go down in value once the ballistic comes out?

i`ve though about converting it to nitro but not flying nitro anymore.

i like the simple charge and fly routine now.
