That thing wasnt singing at all, infact it was running like a pos. Properly tuned, and peaking out......before! the pitch was introduced, and the thing just may have been able to hover
You could also add a bit of mass to the fan to act as a flywheel, which would help a little as well.
And what about one of those little sub inducted cox motors ?

Doubt it would ever win the nitro V electric wars, but it would buzz around a hall im sure.

What is amazing is how little torque the engine has. It only has enough to spool up the blades at flat pitch, any angle of attack decays rotor speed rapidly. It must be a .020 engine, is that right? i don;t get how he throttles a cox engine, it would be interesting to see the setup.
