Craig has it right. This is going to be a great fun fly to attend. We have some awsome members that volunteered to help. And we also have other non-members volunteering just to get to be there and participate. Hope people get the message and come join us on June 11th and 12th at Longview Lake in Kansas City, Missouri.

I'm getting really really revved up. I'm getting to the point where I can't sleep. Maybe we should just start this tomorrow and get on with it so Pete and I can relax. I'm like a kid at Christmas waiting to open presents. Well, at least it's this weekend.Thunderbirds Rock and Roar

Event Flyer
Here's a flyer I put together today that I printed and posted on the bulletin board at my office. Not sure it'll drum up much interest, but I figured I got nothing to lose. (I also included a map and the driving directions on a separate sheet.)

Run Ryder reduces the image quality, but rest assured that the original and print version looks very nice.

Oh, and by the way, I don't like potato salad so you don't need to worry about me 3DManA1.

Thanks, moonbird! :)
Glad you like it! Yeah, it might be a bit over-the-top, but what the hell, right? I'm more than happy to be able to help and I'm proud to be a part of this club and the Fun Fly!

Just so there's no confusion, that's just a 8.5x11" flyer and not a sign design for marking the way to the Fun Fly along the roads. Those will be much simpler since I don't have all the time in the world to get them done. Tomorrow I'm meeting with Dodge to go along the routes leading to the field to determine the best locations and how many signs I'll need to make.

Afterwards, I'll head out to a few places around town and scout for materials.

Watching young girls try on different clothes and deciding what looks good on them... yeah, that's just a bummer. *ahem*

Preliminary design...
Okay, I'm almost reluctant to post this because I don't have this worked out just yet...

I called up an old buddy of mine that used to own a sign shop once upon a time (okay, a few years ago) and asked if he could point me in the right direction for what I needed to make the signs for the fun fly. Turns out that he still has some sign materials and can possibly print them for me too. We talked about cost a little bit, but he said he would work with me on that.

Anyway, here's the design I have in mind for an 18" x 24" sign...

Yes, it's very simple, but that's the whole idea. I do NOT know if I can put the helicopter graphic on there yet. That's just what I would LIKE to do, but I don't know if that's going to be possible yet. That's why I said I was reluctant to post this because I don't want to get too many people's hopes up with the design and then not be able to pull it off. The final font style may not look like that either, but I can live with changing that.

The colored border would come from me applying colored tape (or possibly paint) to the edge. It might depend on how much time I have left after the signs are printed. Also, the direction arrow will not be printed on the signs... after talking with Sean today, I decided that I would leave that area blank and I would just custom make the arrows with electrical tape as needed depending on the road location of the sign. This way, the tape can be removed and changed for next year if needed.

Anyway, I just thought I'd show that I've got the ball rolling and IF it all comes together, this is what it might look like. Worst case, if my friend can't print the heli graphic, I might be able to do it by hand with a big Sharpie marker or something...

Despite my caution in posting this, I did so because I'm interested in feedback, so if anyone has any ideas, criticisms, or suggestions about the design, please let me know. Just keep in mind that my space is limited. Thanks!

Sign locations
Hey guys, have a quick look over this map and see what you think...

This shows where Sean and I decided to put signs leading to the Fun Fly. The red arrow direction indicates which way each sign will point at each intersection.

EDIT: Updated the map to show that there are two locations where I'm not sure if signs should go there. (Yellow "?" marks.) Sean thought people might get confused with the road having a jog in it there if I only had one sign at SE Raytown Rd. and SW Hook Rd... I'm not sure, so throw me some feedback if you have any.

Thanks!

Sign update...
Okay, I sent an email with the proposed sign idea to my friend, the sign maker, and when he saw the helicopter graphic, he said, "no problem, just send me the file."

I'm hoping to be able to go to his place tonight and see for myself.

I'm so proud that are group is working so hard together to make this the best fun fly. Everything is looking great!!

Cortez will be here tomorrow morning. The sponsors are all kicking in. The food is going to be top notch. The girls have their uniforms. Our t-shirts should be ready. Stix got the signs going in the right direction. It's looking great.

Everyone should go over their equipment. Make sure all the bolts are tight and everything working properly. Have your batteries charged and be ready to fly.

Guys, I can't wait! We are in for some fun.
