i assume you mean the stock Align motors that come with the kit? The old ones, silver (ridges) outlining the motor, are inrunners, and are weaker. The newer kits come with the outrunners (i believe they're called the "M" series, for example a 500M would be used in a Trex 500). They're much stronger and more reliable. Correct me if i'm wrong about any of this . When i used to have a Trex 500, i ran the Scorpion motor and it was very strong and lasted a long time

I have two Trex 500s one with FB and one without. The FB version has the older style motor with the silver ridges and is the inrunner type motor, the 3G FBL version has the new outrunner motor.

yeah, if you're 100% set on the Align motors, you definately want to go for the M-series.

Correction, the original black canned motor is actually an outrunner not an inrunner. Align choose to put the outrunner inside a can for who knows what reason.

When it first came out the T500 with the original black can was quite the little power house. This motor is dubed the 500L Not not long after that the 500 class exploded and most were sporting stock motors with almost twice as much power as the black can. Align released a newer siver canned motor called the 500M intended to help the T500 catch up to the competition. The 500M had a very short life and has already been superceded by a newer more powerful model that is reported to have better bearings. Here's some specs.

500L
•Max output power:650W/800W(30sec)
•KV value:1600KV
•Dimension: spindle 5x36x61.1mm
•Weight: 200g (prox.)

500M
•Max output power:1260W/1470W(30sec)
•KV value:1600KV
•Dimension: spindle 5x36x61.1mm
•Weight: 205g (prox.)

500MX
•Max output power:1600W/2300W(5sec)
•KV value:1600KV
•Dimension: spindle Φ5xΦ40.9x46.5mm
•Weight: 197g (prox.)

Depends on your pinion/hs, flying style, pack size and all up weight. For sport flying with a 450g 3000mah on 12t 90% throttle I was getting an easy 8 minutes with the 500L. I moved to a 13t, governed setup and now its down to 6 minutes. But its alot more fun to fly.
