I got an email from user andrews92122 saying that he sent me money for a PSP that I sold on Ebay and never received it. He goes on to say that he reported me to Paypal and if I don't respond within 2 days, he will report me to the FBI!!!!
The catch is, it looks EXACTLY like the emails you get from EBAY. I hit the "respond" button and it directs me to an "EBAY" site that looks EXACTLY like Ebay's login for your info. Of course I did not enter any of my info and when I looked at the URL at the top of the page, it started "http" instead of "https" so I knew it was a scam.
I forwarded the link and email to spoof@paypal.com as well as spoof@ebay.com. Those are where you should send crap like this so that EBAY and Paypal can investigate. Thougt i would let you all know so be careful....the thieves are getting good............Ron

Lots of phishing scams going on out there. Bad guys are getting very good at making the emails look legitimate.

Always someone trying to slip one by. 4 years ago my ebay account was hacked and someone screwed a guy in Colorado out of $2200 for some apple laptops and used my info. The guy sent the money to an overseas account and duh never got his purchase. He sent me a few threatening emails.I gave him my phone number so we could talk and get things straight, and it took me almost an hour to get him to understand that I've lived in Texas all of my life, and why I wouldn't have an overseas bank account again duh... Shows just what some people will fall for. I never found out what happened with him either.

Here is one my boss keeps getting.

Dear Member!
Attention! Your account has been violated!

Thank you for using PayPal!
He kept getting these and was about to log on to see what the problem was before I stopped him. The hyperlink goes to a phishing site.

Even though I've explained it and tried to do some training on tactics like this at work, some people just aren't savvy or just plain too trusting to protect themselves.

EDIT: For some reason the hyperlink attached says something different in the actual email when you drag your cursor over it. It directs you to a http://riddleme.com/http://paypal.c...?cmd=_login-run address.

Annoying the world one person at a time

I delete all e mails I receive from both PayPal and E Bay without even looking at them.

Not sure about E Bay.

But, PayPal will never send you an e mail about your profile in your account. Or, ask you by email any of your personal financial information.

They put notices to you on your account. But, never send you emails except to notify you of funds received, or funds sent.

Thanks for the heads up.

Their is another scam also, I got one a while back. A e-mail that looked like from pay-pal, telling me I needed to confirm all my info, and update my credit/debit card stuff. None of the buttons on the site to click on worked, except the part where you put your pass word, and e-mail address into. I knew right about it was a scam.

phishing is a real problem and not enough people know about it. My mother in law was a victim of a Mcaffee phishing website.

I brought home the training presentation for phishing from where I work and made my wife go through it

Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!
