I can't figure out how to mount the governor magnets and sensor on this raven 50. There are no nice mounting spots and the fan is behind the cooling shroud. Can anyone post a pic of how to mount this?

oh boy I don't have a pick right now, and both my Ravens are apart , anyhoo I just Glued my Magnet to the side of the Bell, and then I cut a Slot in the Shroud so the Sensor and Mount will slide up into the Slot,,

I didn't have any vibrations, and I know other guys mounted theirs the same way, it's another good aspect of the Century 30/50 Clutch

oopssss I forgot,, I used thickened 2 hour Epoxy Glue,

note,,
please "do not" use 1/2 hour Epoxy or 15 minutes Epoxy or 5 Minute Epoxy, I have been using Epoxy for 21 years in and out of the RC Hobby, used it on RC Boats and on my Fullsize Wood Boat when I had it and I have never had good luck with them in the Long Time use, I have used 5 minute Epoxy and 15 minute Epoxy on my RC Planes (wood) only to have it fail on the first landing, I will never use these Quick Setting Epoxies again,,

1 Hour Epoxy is good but 2 Hour Epoxy is batter, Devcon is a good product, 1 nd 2 hour Super Glue Epoxy is good too and is most likely made by Devcon,, J&B Weld is good, and they make J&B for different things, just make sure it's for Metal and it's NOT Quick Setting,,,,,,, and first clean the Magnet and Bell with Rubbing Alcohol,

BTW how long have you been flying the Raven ??

Thanks for the info, I didn't think of cutting the shroud. Anyway, I decided to buy the spektrum backplate sensor instead of screwing with mounting magnets on the fan. The raven was given to me and I haven't flown it yet. I still have to tune the 55hz that's in there before I set up the governor.

with the spektrum backplate sensor you may need some washers to shim it back away fron the Crank Pin, I know I had to and my friend had to also
we had to do this because the Sinsor was reading once off the Crank Pin and off the Crank's Balance Weight too

You can mount it on the fan or in the outer area of the clutch bell (I prefer the clutch bell as it is easy to access for the sensor).

Check out this thread as both are shown. Also check out the thread link provided by RadioRob the second poster in it:

A search of "Raven governor" can find other threads also.

Yep, that's what I've done thanks to the good advice of folks here on this forum. It's worked out quite nicely. No reason it can't be mounted to the clutch bell since the Raven/NX/Hawk clutch is thick, there's plenty of space to get a magnet in there w/o having to drill straight through.

I'm sure mounting it on the side of the bell works too, but you're relying pretty heavily on the epoxy to hold it in against the centrifugal force then. Putting it on the bottom leaves material on the side to hold it in, and I've had good success with 30 minute epoxy that way. Haven't thrown a magnet yet.

If it can't hover, it ain't worth flying.
