Yep 5 flights out of a gallon of nitro will be great!
Esp. for our fellow pilots that have to spend $50 a gallon(Japan)...
$10 a flight OUCH!

I wish less time would be spent on trying so hard to match/compare to the performance of a 12S 700 class electric and more on focusing on getting the motor to run well, as smoothly as a 90, and with comparable bearing life. It's a pointless pissing match any other way because whatever weight or power figure to which you're comparing is going to be history in 6-12 months with the way electric technology is evolving and without any increase in all up model weight but with progressively increasing power and flight time.

That pretty much sums it up Ben!

It also should be noted that Tim may have shorter flight times but he is also running a 2200 headspeed.

Flight times... I do hope we will see an increase for electrics. It is a bit disappointing to have a touch over 4 min when you are used to about 8 min.

As for the YS... Did any of you see Tim's 90 with ignition at IRCHA? I think he flew for 10-12 minutes and STILL had fuel left in the tank!

If they do something like that for the 120, you will probably be looking at 10 min flight times!

I am all about the electrics, but we are no where near 10 min flight times!!!

Nope, not going down that road. I have both and they have their pos and neg points.

It was ignition. You just can't help but getting excited about that increase in flight time.

Ok, lets just say for argument sake the 120 is up to 5HP and it isn't. Too big of a jump over the 90.

E 90's still make 10+ HP. What part of $35 a gallon fuel for 6 flights and clean up (I HATE THAT PART) and half the power am I supposed to like???? HMMMM????

I have flown nitro my whole life and I still own a YS 91 SR in a 700N, but after I sell it, I for the first time will be all E power.

With a new TP 65C 12S pack and basically any motor now I can have 10-12HP EASY. The new bigger machines guys will go to 14S and ramp the power up again. The YS 120 will be light years behind before it can come out.

I am THE biggest YS fan their is, but nitro is fading away for top performance. I didn't say it would fade away.

As far as flight time the 120 CAN'T be much better than a 90 E monster.

ONLY WAY TO MAKE HORSEPOWER IS TO SUCK AIR AND DRINK FUEL. One's free and one ain't. Period. Flight time will suffer to make big power.

What will it cost????

At LEAST $500+. What will matching Hatori cost??? At least $250.

$750+ you need a governor. $35 a gall on fuel here for 6 flights. Ah, yeah.... I'll buy 3 or 4.

Nitro has just hit its limits and E has no limit in sight.

I keep hearing about these 90Es putting out 10HP on 12s,can someone please direct me to a video.Thats twice + the power of my 90s and i feel i have adequate power

If this is true then its putting out more power than my 3W 100 ON A 35%

I just want to see some proof.I have seen some vids but i couldnt tell any difference in E power v/s Nitro.and has this proof been dyno tested or just assumption?

Not that im looking for or needing more power becouse i realized years ago when i finally learned throttle management that i had all the power i needed with some to spare,so those seeking or needidng all that power must be needing to cover up there poor skills

It is just per mathematical formula. With flight loggers the watts recorded is what is used. There is a formula for the conversion for watts to horsepower.

Lets see:

1 gal methanol = 63k btu
1 gal nitromethane = 125k btu
oil? who knows

.3 X 125k + .5X 63k (+.2 oilX0k) = 69k btu/gal

1 kW = 3413 BTU/hr

1 hp = .746 kW

1 hp = .746 * 3413 = 2546 btu/hr = 42 btu/min

Nitro 90 helis burn appx 1/5 gallon in 8 minutes or .025 gal/min

.025 gal/min * 69k btu /gal = 1.7k btu/min

1700/42 = 41 HP.

So, when touts 10 hp electric setups, you can say that using the same bogus methodology your nitro 90 pulls 41 HP out of the fuel tank and 10 hp ain't squat.
