Doing my research for a future Intrepid build. I know I want a Hanson engine, but the question is which one?
I plan to do just easy 3D, no stick banging. With the prices from high to low of only $70, I was wondering if getting the Pro 3D was overkill and might be a little harder to tune due to higher compression?
For a Sunday flyer I don't know if I need the power, but like the added balancing you get with the 3D.....

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Bob

A Hanson or Toxic's 231 modified will fill your ticket just fine,, I would not go for the 260, Good luck,, XGM/VGM

Have experience with both of his engines both the high compression 3dmax, and the more standard balanced ProPlus. Over the years running both kinds I have found no increased "temperamental" characteristic to either. I'd say the hi compression version will put out 20% more power or so. He makes a squared away engine in either format.

I will also state that I noticed no difference in vibes with either model (standard or high compression).

Are you saying the 3D Max has 20% more power than the "Plus" or a stock engine?

When we speak of power, recall that Zenoah has some very low dyno ratings, around 2-3 HP, then some other folks have some higher ratings, around 3-5HP. Because RPM, relationship to torque, and muffler choice affect power, I don't think we can pick off specific power levels on these. My estimates are based on observations and experiences, very approximate.

Stock 230's are smooth and have very good power for general 3d also.
