Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), incoming chairman of one of the House committees that oversees health policy, said undoing the Democrats' health reform law would be a top priority for the new GOP-controlled Congress.

Upton said on "Fox News Sunday" that he believes there may be enough opposition in the new House to reach the two-thirds majority required to override a presidential veto. Short of that, he said House leaders will "go after this bill piece by piece."

"As part of our pledge, we said that we would bring up a vote to repeal healthcare early," Upton said. "That will happen before the president's State of the Union address. We have 242 Republicans. There will be a significant number of Democrats, I think, that will join us. You will remember when that vote passed in the House last March, it only passed by seven votes."

Upton added: "I don't think we're going to be that far off from having the votes to actually override a veto."

You may be right.

A lot of politics going on, but it will be fun watching someone finally stand up to Obama.

I pray it doesn't go through, or this country is in for a world of hurt. Obama's only reason for wanting to pass this joke of a healthcare system was to leave a name for himself. He would be the so called president that gave everyone healthcare.

I am still amazed people actually like this man we call president. I personally don't even like to refer to him as our president, as I am very ashamed to acknowledge he is the president.

It will be repealed. The votes are stacking up against it as we type. Its highly likely there will be plenty of Congressional votes to over ride a presidential veto.

You ain't alone. By far.

can the house repeal this bill by itself? The article mentioned possibly having the numbers to over-ride a presidential veto, but what about the Senate???

The house of representatives, by itself, does not constitute "Congress"...

Thats true. But, even if they don't get the vote to over ride a presidential veto, the plan by the repubs is to keep sending it to the presidents desk and make him explain it. 63% of the American public are against that ObamaCare bill. Obama himself made a total of 36 speeches trying to explain it before the vote on it. He failed every time because he and all others involved never read the thing. They could not understand it even if they did read it. No body can. Thats why we keep learning new and horrible things about it as time goes on.

Eventually, it will get to the supreme court for a decision. Its highly likely the decision there (at least as far as the court stands today) would be against the key provision of the bill and kill the whole thing and make it useless. The white house is doing every thing they can to delay getting it to the supreme court by legal wrangling. Thats an act of desperation and hoping for the SC to change its ideology and move to the left. Its unlikely that will happen.

again, no mention of the Senate...

The bill doesn't get forwarded until both houses of Congress pass the legislation...

True. But, it may not even be an issue there. The Dems do have, by count (2 or 3 I think) the majority in the senate. But, the senate itself got ObamaCare passed by only 7 votes. With the shellacking they took last November, and the Repub vote count increased dramatically there, that could very well tell the story that there easily could be plenty of votes by both Dems and Repubs to over ride a presidential veto.

In any case, we'll have to see what happens.

I am going on optimism here.

I'm optimistic as well.

At least the HoR vote will bring the issue to the fore again.
