What do you all see at the next big advancement(s) in our hobby for 2011?

I'll say:
- More FBL electronics competition
- F3C maybe adopting FBL
- Lower battery prices
- More efficient, lower IR batteries
- More integration of components (RX, gyros, limiters, governors, glow ignitors, regulators, etc.)
- lighter, streamlined models
- more proliferation of high charge rate lipos, 10C+ and the associated chargers to charge them (like the current FMA Direct Power Lab 8 v2)

I also will predict:
- Kyosho RC helicopter division ceasing to exist
- a new MA 90
- a new Raptor 90
- a new Hirobo electric model and 50-size nitro
- a complete clothing line with cologne designed by P. Diddy, Alan Szabo Jr. and Jason Krause from Align :P

I'm expecting flybarred helicopters and nitro helicopters to diminish , probably won't see them die out for 5 more years maybe but that's just what i think. Also, TP is already coming out with a legit 65C discharge battery pack, and i expect other manufactures will come out with these more powerful batteries, as well as chargers to match . And i'm sure JR will come out with a whole new bunch of transmitters, probably getting up to the JR 29X or so by the end of the year

I'm predicting and hoping we stop calling it flybarless within a year or so.

Its like...
If you don't have a topper on your pickup do you call it topperless?

Do people out west say their yard is lawnless because they can't grow grass?

If you don't wear a beard do you say your beardless?

Its time we develop a new term for FBL, we could just call it a triple axis.

Not likely. There are subtle issues to be worked out for this to happen and I'd assume it has something to do with the fact that the electronics cannot read the "intentions" of the pilots, whereas the "intentional" reactions are already fixed in a standard flybar.
a new MA 90
who cares, Aligns literally dominates the market and MA I would assume is just scrapping by at best.

SKS, I love your attitude!

Fortunately, there are people who care about what happens with brands other than Align.

Besides, by indication of your profile, you don't seem to fly anything. You're quite a mystery, kinda like the origins of London fog :P

I bet by your standards, everyone in the UK should be driving around Minis, because who cares about anything else?

Personally, I'd prefer the Reliant Robin

F3C will adopt FBL sooner or later. That kind of progressive technology will not be shut out forever. Maneuvers will evolve to allow for the greater flight performance made possible by these systems. I can see us allowing it in AMA competition in the US (not just as a provisional class) even sooner if guys start asking for it. I would vote for doing that (and I do have a vote as a contest board member).

Kyosho is already pretty much a done deal with helicopters. Funtec aquired all the rights to at least the C90, which is good for those flying that model.

As much as Align owns the market and as much as guys like them, other companies will continue to thrive. Why? Because not everyone wants to fly the same thing, and like it or nor, Align sits in its own quality niche. Not too bad and safe and functional, but still a step back from the likes of Hirobo, JR, Funtec, Mikado, etc.

An Align 100 collective pitch instead of an Eflite mSR clone would be be very nice indeed. Simple yet collective Dudes Yes, I started drinking early--- Sorry

this is kind of obvious, as Jaheong Lee flew the prototype at 3DM , should be a great helicopter!

darkfa8,

It's not that at all.

I was referring to some strange characteristic of FBL systems where the pilot had an intention of doing one thing and the FBL system miss interpreted (because of software or whatever) and had to get use to it. How would you go around it, maybe using switches to signal the intention of what the pilot wants to do. Like for example at our club sometime in July this year, our best pilot always made sure he had to land vertically straight, because he would tip the heli over on the landing if he didn't because of the intention interpretation of the FBL system. I don't know what the other issues are yet since I haven't tried one. But for aeros, yes, definitely, I can see it giving people an edge.

If I told you what I fly, you'd probably be very surprised.

And no, I don't want everyone to have minis. The last heli that MA had me excited about was the Pro IIK. But there are other issues regarding MA that I never liked them for, and I can't see them thriving in the market place that we have now. It's just very difficult now for any heli manufacturer to be as successful as Align, that's the point I'm making.

I will wager my entire heli fleet along with all my gear that this will NEVER happen. And what's more, if you understand them properly, it will NEVER be allowed to happen.

"God" is the most pathetic, philosophically absurd, construct imaginable, and Outhouse and GimbleFan understand this issue clearly. But it's obvious to me that most do not.

Einstein's successor, Edward Witten, does not care about nor discusses religion or "God" because he finds it all "silly". Not worth his time. Has better things to do. The only reason that outhouse and Gimble continue is because they're after a bit of fun.
