I recently bought DX8 and installed AR8000 in my new plane that i bought couple of days back. 2 days back i binded AR8000 to DX8 and did all the setup and trims.

Today to do some more linkage trim changes on the plane, i switched on the DX8 and then powered the AR8000 and to my surprise nothing happens, light on th satellite is on but not on the main rx. I tried binding 3 times, main rx blinkes with bind plug in the bind port, but doesnt bind. Luckily it didnt happen in the flight (i am still setting up the plane).

Does any have this kind of issue? Will call Horizon tomorrow. This is just frustating after paying $400 for the combo. I dont know what kind of crap quality assurance horizon/spektrum has.

BTW, i have also binded DX8 to a AR500 which work perfectly.

Thanks in advance.

AR8000 Issue too
Here is a letter I sent to Horiozn. On 12/26/10, I sent my DX8 transmitter and AR8000 receiver and remote back to horizon, because the receiver would not bind.Support said my transmitter was ok, but the receiver would not bind. Now on 1/05/11, I received a new AR8000 receiver and remote, along with my transmitter.I was just setting the servos up on a new Build Align 500 ESP and this one lost the bind and will not bind again. My work order number was B674722. This is getting to cost me,(I didn't know at the time that they may have paid shipping.) and I'm not getting anyting done. Can you help me.
Thank you

The AR8000 wont bind to any other remote rx but the one that comes with the AR8000 though nobody can tell me why (they are not at liberty to say). And there is almost no way to tell the difference between the old remote rx and new remote rx besides the screws on the back are not hex.

The remote for the 8000 and the older remotes are different sizes and can easily be distinguished that way. Not defending HH position on not explaining, just trying to help. My guess is HH biz is being impacted buy cheap foreign knock offs and they are trying to protect their IP. No issue with that, except they need to clearly state what works with what.

There is absolutely NO difference! The case is IDENTICAL in every way. When i asked HH how to tell a difference i was told to see if the 8000 would put it into bind mode.

I've sent two AR8000's back for the same reason. Got them both back from HH & one of them still don't work. I've returned it a second time.

DX8 and AR 8000
Ok I'm having a problem rebinding my AR 8000 with my DX8. It flashes like it is going to bind. The DX8 responds as though it is binding, but then the light on the Receiver stops flashing the satellite rx light comes on steady but the AR8000 has no light and will not work. (Because its not binded). This is the original AR8000 not a knock off. Can anyone help?

AR8000 fix
Just got off the phone with HH about my AR8000. It seems the AR8000 will not work with any other "SPEKTRUM" remote receiver. It has to be the one that came with the AR8000 receiver.
The tech said they just found this out with my receiver & is surprised that there has not been more sent in with this problem. They are working on making this remote receiver available separately ASAP.
With all the remote receivers I have the way to identify the one for the AR8000 is by the TID # HT008X on the remote.

With all due respect to Horizon, they did not just find this out. If you look over on RCGROUPS, there is a long thread on the DX8, and the situation with the remotes was mentioned a couple of weeks back at least.

Horizon needs to get their act together with this. They need to distinguish the part#s and make it clear to the customer that this is a different part, and give us a means to purchase the new remotes w/o purchasing a entire AR8000.

I think the issues with the DX8 are relatively low from a percentage standpoint, but if you have one of the units with issues, it's one unit too much. They generally have very good support, though I think they've fallen down a bit on a few issues lately.

Unless Horizon has someone else design and build their radios and receivers, they have known about this issue for well over a year. The new remote receiver has same length and width as the old one, however it is less than a 1mm thicker than the older remote receivers.

Technically Japan Radio, JR, builds the radios, Horizon is just the US distributor.

That is only true regarding the JR radios, not the Spektrum branded radios. Though I believe JR may have built some of the early models, like the DX7.

Based on the recent DSMX announcement, It is now clear why the AR8000 will not work with the older remotes.

Why did you bump this thread? The issue is DSMX receivers will not work with DSM2 satellites.

because I spent 5 hours the other night looking for this very issue...

and the thread was on page 24

and I finally found out why the RX and sat I sold to a guy wasn't moving the servos...

I have a new this season 550, 5 flights went to Vbar, accidentally left the sat on the bird.

Fast Forward to now, selling equipment (you know how the equipment multiplies)

I separate everything, batts, esc, RX, into plastic shoe boxes by category.

Well as it turns out I grabbed what I thought was the sat for the Rx, not even knowing that they are specific to each other, and shipped it off to this poor guy who can't get cyclic servo movement BUT can bind the unit to his Tx.

Back and forth trying to help this guy, finally I say I'll return your money, send me the unit, "BTW could you give me the serial numbers off the RX and sat?"

sends me the email, I go to HH looking for bulletins..nothing, then I figured I would look for other posts re: this matter.

well on Pg 24 I found this thread, saw aviatorflyer's comment:
With all the remote receivers I have the way to identify the one for the AR8000 is by the TID # HT008X on the remote
The number stuck out in my mind, went to the email and viola

On the back of the Rx there are two #'s

HS 009B (assuming Rx)
HE 009B (assuming sat that works with Rx)

and he has sat # 0809

well the sat in my hand is:

HE 009B
and at the bottom is an X

in addition the sat CLEARLY is smaller

so...in so many words, after 5 hours of searching I just hit "bump" at 8:17 AM, which means I didn't sleep, cause I started searching around 3 AM after I finished my "job" (paper work)

sorry

freakin JR

BTW is posting "bump" a not so good thing?

I bought a AR8000 and without the sat. servos did not move but did bind. I bought a separate JR DSMX sat and everything works just fine
