Hey guys

I hope you guys can help me because this is doing my head in.

Long story short - can't bind.

Mini-Var 5.0, very first plugin. Using Spektrum satellite receivers. Get to the point where the info says;

"The binding procedure starts after a short interrupt of the RX power. During the binding procedure keep all sticks centered and throttle / ESC to the low, motor off position because this will set the fail safe values at this time. Now disconnect the RC power for one second and start with the binding procedure on your TX after reconnecting the power".

After the power-off/on cycle, the satellite begins blinking, and also the V logo begins blinking faster. I begin usual bind sequence with my DX6i and the satellite stops blinking straight away - we hear not another peep from that. The V continues blinking in its new, faster rate.

And this is as far as we get. The next screen (Transmitter Adjustments) shows through the lack of action in the bars a bind has not been made. Of course, I leant on the switch for a good few minutes to make sure I gave it a fighting chance.

Tried different ports - only the one satellite but it worked fine on my Rex - etc etc etc. The transmitter has been set up rigorously as per instructions.

No idea what I'm doing wrong... help? I'm *no* good with this kind of computery stuff and had to be prodded to get a V-Bar over my tried n tested shaft of steel rod. I hope it's a simple mistake I've made or something...

Cheers

Andy

When u hit bind, then pull out FireWire from unit. Then quick cycle power now as u said turn on tx with bind button depressed, as soon as tx on hit and hold th hold remain button depressed until lights solid done. I think the pulling FireWire or un plugging from pc part is what you're missing here.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

What I found helping a buddy set up his new VBar was that when you've got it plugged into your computer and you set it to "bind"...

Unplug the heli battery and IMMEDIATELY plug it back in. There is a built-in timer that after something like 5 seconds doesn't enter bind mode. It worked for us several times.

Disclaimer: I don't know the exact time settings involved but I DO know it works as I've described. You have to be quick on the unplug/plug of the main battery and you'll be fine. Give it a shot and see how it goes.

I had a similar problem and it was solved by changing the drop down box for the receiver type to something other than Spectrum, then changing to back to Spectrum and running the bind process as detailed above. This worked for me.

Good luck!

Okay - thanks guys. That's exactly the kind of helpful response I was hoping for, and have come to expect from Mikado pilots, frankly. I'll do everything suggested. And OICU812, I always enjoy reading your posts both on here and HF. You're always helpful and clearly love the brand. I hope to learn a lot from you and others in the coming year. This is gonna be a big one heli wise... just gotta get the V-Bar agreeing with me!

Thanks again. I really appreciate this and all the other questions I've tackled with the help of people all over the world. Couldn't have done it without you.

Happy New Year, and I never post without some kind of resolution, so please watch this space for more teary questions or triumphant posts with lots of exclamation points!

Oh, and...

... if I get a successful bind, does the light in the Spektrum satellite glow solid at that moment? How about the V on the V-Bar? How does it show me apart from the next screen with the (hopefully no longer) dead live feedback bars, that I've met the magic formula?

As soon as your radio is bound the satellites will go solid 'on'. The rest is cake.

Well, I just made sure the connection break was no more than half a second (probably closer to quarter - it barely powered off!) but we got the Tx and V-Bar talking nicely. Wow - the rest of the setup IS cake, isn't it. You really do need to be fast on that poweroff.

So here she is! Resisting the overwhelming urge to maiden her tonight (far too tired...) but I'l upload a maiden video for you guys soon.

Thanks for all the help!
