i really like my 450 BUT the tail belts don't last and the speed control does not last that long either. i tried different brands in speed control and mabey trying to fly 10 batteries in an afternoon is to much?? If i was to get a trex 500 would i still have tail belts issue and speed control issues??? By running 2 2200 packs in the 500 how long are your flight times??? i don't do crazy 3d stuff but i do like to throw it around some. looking for some input that all.

the speed controller is not affected by which helicopter you use it on, but it would be affected differently depending on how hard you push it. the 500 would elliminate the belt issues because, unless you look very hard to find one, torque tube is the only option for the tail. I ran my 500 on one 3200mAh pack, and flew for 5 minutes of 3D. The pack was EXTREMELY old though and i could've gotten 6 minutes on a pack in good condition.

If your going through belts and esc's then your doing something wrong for sure.I owned alots of Trex 450's,a Trex 600E/Trex 600N with belt setups and put hundreds of problem free flights on them. The only this I broke a belt was on my 600N but the boom in half.
Im willing to bet your making the belt way too tight and its stressing both the esc and belt..

Flybarless 500... way to go! I get 6.5 minutes on a 3600mah batt with headspeed cranked to 2800, stock motor, esc, and turnigy 6S 3600.

and only 21-2300 MAH goes back into the batt after that too~!

the Align 500 ESP has the the Torque Tube tail drive, the earlier 500's had the belt drives. i think most of the "clone" 500 models are only belt drive tails. all my 450's still have the belt...i love em' !

nothing to it but to do it

i am looking for a used trex 500 and so far that all i see are belt drives ones and only came across 1 torque tube machine so far. I never had any 6s batteries before so my 3s 2200 pack take 1 hour to charge so how long to charge a 6s pack?? also do i need a 6s or can i fly 5s also?? I know i said speed control don't last but i do put 50 or more flights on it a week weather pending. I like to burn 4 to 5 batteries at a time when i go out. right now my electric i fly at the school baseball field so 500 would be a nice size up from a 450.

gonna need a 6S to fly the 500...2650mah at the minumum ! i usually recharge my 3000mah 6S batteries in under an hour (my charging) also...depends on the amp you charge...and a halfway decent charger

i'm still using the stock 60amp esc that came in my 500 esp kit. have had no problems at all with it

nothing to it but to do it

But the Rave 450!!!

Better than both the Trex 450 and 500 together!!

And fly it on 4s

:-)

But I agree, the 550 would be the heli to get. I had the 600 n sold it after I got a 700. If I buy another heli it will be the 550 for sure. But I want a few planes first :-)

I have to agree with LONR on the belt/esc thing.I have well over 3000-3500 flights on my Mini titan 450 and it still has the stock esc performing great, and I have only changed the belt 2 times while breaking down for winter maintanence.never had one break. So something is definately not right.

as for the 500 or 550.Whatever you have the room to fly,go with that, you will most definately love the bigger size, flys better and much more visable in the air.

what esc are you using in the 450 and what settings are you using?

We were talking about the 450 and 500 sized machines.
My 700E is better than your Protos :-)

I dont see the need for a 500 sized heli!! You could just buy the 550E. Not much more cost and better than the Protos :-)

I had the 450, 500, 600, and 700. I didn't see the need for a 600 so I sold it. Kept the Rave 450 for practice/park flying. I'll keep my Rave and 700E. If I get a machine between these two, it will be the 550E!!!!

that shouldn't affect anything,I have flown way more than that on a good weekend afternoon. What are your batt,motor/esc temps after a flight?

I didn't say that but the Protos is the best 500 class heli if thats what your looking for.You can't compare the 500 class to the 550 class, not the same level.

BTW,
Not saying that to help my sale because its so cheap, someone will buy it.

I love the Trex 500. I think it is a great heli and has a solid place in the product line. The batteries are cheap(er) than the 550 by quite a bit and it flies much more stable than the 450.

No doubt, I love the 550, but my 500 never collects dust and I can fly it (with my abilities) in a much smaller space than the 550.
