Guys- sorry if this is not appropriate- but I would like to see if there are any RR members who are based overseas at the Bagram Base.

My nephew, a Gunny with the US Marines, was rushed there yesterday after tangling with an IED. No details needed here, but while it looks like he is gonna make it- it's gonna be a hard road back.

I know that may not be possible for a whole lotta good reasons- but if any RR members who are there, and could take a few minutes and drop by and tell him his Uncle George sent ya- I would be in your debt.

PM me for the details.

Thanks in advance - G2 in New Zealand

Latest Update
We were notified last night that my nephew has been uplifted to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany last night. If things go well, he'll just be there until Sunday or so- then back to the States.

I'm not certain where he'll end up after that.

We are hoping this is a good sign, so thing must be going well.

Maybe next week, when he settles down, I may see if any of you guys can get word to him. I'm just a wee bit too far away to drop by, so a hand would be appreciated.

Thanks- g2

Thanks for this note.

My family also has a huge thanks to pass along to a member of the British Armed Forces- the Surgeon who worked on John when he was airlifted from the field was a British Medical officer!

Where I'm located down here in Wellington- I have lotsa friends who are Poms- so I guess I need to shout them to a beer or two! Well worth the price, I reckon.

Again- thanks for thinking of John. Much appreciated.

Best- G2

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Paul- on behalf of John- Thanks.

This was his 3rd trip overseas- his first to the current theater of operations.

He's a good lad, who has - besides his Mum (my big sister) and the rest of our family- he has a wife and 2 cute daughters.

We'll all be glad to have him back.

There are too many folks who have made sacrifices - large and small- and we all owe them.

Best to ya- G2

Yo Sniper-

Thanks for this note. I'll forward your good thoughts along to John- I know he'll appreciate it from a fellow soldier.

We've had some good news today- he came out of his surgery today in good shape, already talking with some mates of his who are also in the hospital in Landstuhl. Looks like he'll be sent to Bethesda on Sunday- where he'll be met by various family members.

I'm starting to plan a trip over to see him and the rest of the family in October- he should be in better shape then.

I wish you well, my friend. Lotsa bad guys in that neighborhood- you take care.

Best wishes- G2

Hearing how many tours of duty he and many others have served truly breaks my heart. Bush promised "NO DRAFT". As a result, our military has been run haggard, and with marginal support when they get home. :\

You really think the draft is the answer?! I highly doubt our honorable, brave volunteers want to serve with and trust their lives to the conscripted.

tskg2 - your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

SOOOO true it's not even funny. I look at the average 20-25 year old male and wonder how they even manage to suck air. Our volunteer soldiers are the best we have and I'm thankful they're not watered down with a bunch of "mouth breathers".......

Thanks to everyone from the Schneider/Hayes clan!
Folks-
I've been asked to pass along the thanks from John's family to everyone here who has sent their best wishes, thoughts and prayers.

The folks are amazed that so many people who not have met me- much less John- would take an interest in a stranger.

It looks like he'll be in Bethesda in the next few days, so that will probably help a fair bit.

If it's Ok with you folks- once the lad gets settled, I am send another post in case there is a RR person nearby who can drop in and say howdy from me.

Again, thanks.

A draft would certainly have caused a huge uproar in the public about when to wage war, and who we pick our battles with. And it would certainly have forced our government to revisit its foreign policies. Quite frankly, I don't understand why we meddle in the business of so many other foreign countries when we have such dire economic and social issues right here in our own backyard!
