Al, once again you are mistaken. The Scorpion motor you flew was in the ORIGINAL after the Xera motor was removed for comparisons. You are wrong.........again. You should sign off now

You had two Logo 600's with you that day, one with a Scorpion motor and BLS451's on the cyclic, and the other with an X-ERA motor and DS8717's on the cyclic. Again, I flew the one with the Scorpion motor.

Clown, if you want to get best performance from any electric, key is over gearing and utilizing governor, in such case the Kontroniks governor is still far superior. Castle has improved, but they are not there yet. Depends allot on what heli, usually 500 size and smaller can be flown and feel fine on fixed points, meaning less tourque motor and not as much need for the governor. The larger helis a good esc and good working governor makes the world of difference in flight performance IMO. Kontroniks also have a very high quality built in BEC, they are also super simple to program by your tx and a pin on the esc itself, VERY simple indeed. Take a look around at your options and so fourth.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

Kontronik :-)
Castle is fine if you've never flown a Jive/Jazz. But once you do, you'll think the cc was sh!t. Someone once told me that the esc is the heart n soul of an electric setup. It is by far true. I seen a post from a guy that said he switched to a Jive 60lv in his Rave 450 from a CC. He posted it was like flying a new machine.

Well worth the money!!!

CC is fine, but this hobby is a crazy addiction with everyone wanting the best.
My heli flew fine with 9451's in it. But then I upgraded to 8717's on 8 volts :-)
My Rave 450 flies fine on Jr 285mg's, but I bought Airtronics 94809's for it :-)
Both my heli's have Kontronik's in them. All my previuos heli's have Kontroniks in them :-)
Either way, Kontronik is an "upgrade" from CC Bottom line!!

Both sold Al, and once again, you are mistaken. So why does the one I have now have 8717s and a Scorpion motor????? That would be the current one BTW didn't you replace one of your Castle ESCs because a capacitor fell off????

To the OP You really need to decide if it is worth it to you. I had two Castle failures which sent me to Kontroniks for good so they are not worth it IMO. Yes they do cost more but once you realize you set it up, which literally takes 5 minutes and it does all the work for you, you just go fly and never have to "tweak" it.
The extra $$$ you spend on the Kontroniks, you don't spend in frustration with the CC...........Ron

I prefer Kontronik because they just work. No effort to setup and 85% throttle is 85% of you max head speed...simple.

Kontronik also seems to be able to extract the most power from my current battery and motor. I had an Ice on it before and my heli seemed to lack pop....and yes I did the whole over gear thing and played with all the settings. I put in a Jive and I had a much more consistent HS and the heli felt more powerful through maneuvers. The Castle just may be more sensitive to a less steady input voltage(ie preforms better with high C packs).

Regardless the Ice is nice and the price is right. I like the data logger too.

Heck Ill have an Ice ESC and a Kontronik ESC on one heli...how about that The Ice will drive a tail motor that powers the tail. It will be interesting to see how much power a tail rotor actually needs in a flight.

I'd say if you're going to get a Kontronik, go for the latest Jive series. What machine do you plan on putting it in?

To make it future proof(bigger motor), I'd say go for the Jive 120HV.

I'd follow Mr. Austria's advice, he's can actually test out the gear he's speaking on to it's full capability. Lots of hover master's in these types of discussions FWIW.

No, but clown in such cases with say 160HV Castle, look at the size and weight, those are VERY huge escs in particular, will it even fit on the 500 heli???

Definitely not, that said, I don't think Kontronik puts out a Jive 160HV.

For a Trex 500, go with a 60lv, for a 700 class bird on 12s, go with an 80+HV or 120+HV. If you want to go bigger than that, the PowerJazz is good up to 15s and is over 200A capable

ARE you a hover master? No offense but unless you can fly hard enough to be able to legitimately judge how capable something is, then what is your opinion worth? Personally I don't use CC or Kontronic, HobbyWing FTW!
