It would seem that I've been bitten by the scale bug. A couple of months ago, I got a killer price on a Fusuno A109 fuselage for a Trex 500, and just a couple of weeks ago, another killer price on a Fusuno UH-1 fuselage for a Trex 450 heli.

I've gotten the UH-1 finished -- mostly, here are a few pics of the overall project:

Now for the question I promised in the topic title:

It seems that the flybar and paddles want to whack the front and rear of the upper deck of the fuselage. Short of spending a boatload more money on a FBL solution, does anyone have any good ideas on how to keep the flybar and its paddles from whacking the bejeebers out of the fuselage before I fire it up?

I would be surprised if they deflect that much in flight, especially if you are flying smooth scale type flight. I think the MD500 fuses have it worse with this theoretical flybar strike situation but I don't think there has been any actual strikes in scale flight.

door -- I saw those pics of your UH-1 when searching for a decent build article on the UH-1. The graphics add a nice finishing touch. Nice looking heli.

Most scale birds do this...as long as the flybar is level on spoolup you will have no worries...Nice looking Huey...

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'm good to go. I put a new motor in as part of the upgrade. I needed to order a new pinion with a larger bore, that's about all I'm waiting for, now.

Maybe need to think about some graphics to finish it off right.

Pinion arrived today, got it installed, needed to add about 92 grams of weight to the nose to achieve proper balance, took it out in my rainsoaked, 38 degree driveway and gave it a test-hover. Very nice. The 530M motor I installed puts out plenty of power to get airborne and it handled well.

I'll take care of that extra 90 or so grams of needed noseweight by going up a bit in battery size. The 450 was using my trusty Rhino 2150 mah 3S 20C LiPos, I'll bump those up to some Turnigy 3000 or 3300 20C packs this spring when the weather gets flyable. The extra weight will be useful weight, and the extra battery capacity should make up for the more juicy motor and need to haul around the weight of the fuselage.

I'll post additional pics soon.

Thanks for the help to all who answered this post.

I looked up Callie G last evening. Might try some DIY waterslide decals, too. Always been curious as to how well those work.

As for test flights, it has been foggy and misty for the past three or four days around here. I've almost forgotten what a bright sunny day looks like.
