""The ION X was introduced to the market in 2004 to be the
only production 90 size electric helicopter, designed to be the pinnacle of electric RC helicopter performance, and help break the stronghold that the Europeans had enjoyed for many years with the Logos and Jokers"" Copied from elsewhere so I won't take the credit.

Both my Ion-x's (one DS and the other SS) are +5 years old now and still going strong. These heli's were definitely ahead of their time imho and I still love them.

I've run them both on 10-15s, both flybarred and flybarless. I'm currently running the DS on 2x5s5000 in F3C mode (I really need to find someone to sell me a MA F3C head cheap!) and my SS on 2x5s5000 flybarless w/Helicommand-rigid.

Everytime I think about buying another new-beaut 90 E heli, I just have a little nap until the urge passes. Then I go out and buy up some other guys old Ion-x (or Ion-x2) for next to nothing and voila, enough cheap parts to keep them flying for many years to come!

Cheers,
TomC

You have flow one on 15S? What type of battery combination did you use for that?

I flew both Ion-x's on 15s using 3x5s3700 packs in series. Mounted 2 packs, one behind the other, on the left side battery plate and the other pack on the right side.

This put more weight on the left side of the shaft but I never really noticed it in flight.

I also tried 3x5s5000 packs but the extra weight (~900g more than the 3x5s3700 packs) made the heli feel very sluggish imho. Also, it was a very tight fit under the canopy.

While I really liked the feel of 15s power it was a pain to hook up and charge. Also, I had to use a separate voltage regulator since no one makes a Ubec capable of 15s. I could have just ran the ubec off one or two of the packs but this would have just made the hook-ups even more complicated.

Cheers,
TomC
