What if most forums created a system would scan all threads and put up for review and or deletion for redundant or duplicate post?

And get this your penalty could cause you to loose posting points + 10%?

If this type of system was to come into play do you think people would reduce the amount of redundant post and just search the forums prior to posting.

Now if someone has a question, etc and the thread is close then I guess it would be ok to continue that topic by opening a new thread?

I would like to hear from the RR community on this one.

The forum members do a good job of regulating double or redundant posts as it is. Someone posts a redundant post, another member quickly points out the original thread, and the new one dies. Problem solved.

Introducing a penalty system if someone doesn't read every single old post is unfair and will just quickly drive people away.

Sounds like someone scooped their post and they are unhappy about it.

Yeah, just what we need. More regulation in the land of the free. Brilliant idea man. Don't we have enough moderating as it is? The last thing I need is for folks to tell me what I can and can't post. Look at the bright side, the site let you post yours.

Your RR credit score has been docked -10 points, gratz.

Why would you even make a thread like this ?Sounds like you don't like helping others?Have you thought about all the noobs needing help? What about people that did a search and couldn't find what they wanted.Do you know 5 people can have the same problem and the answers in a search might not fix the problem? If people didn't ask questions, this site and others would be dead.I'll bet $$ that you didn't learn everything you know by doing a search.

Thats one thing that kills me about some people. They make post and get all the help they need when he/she started the hobby. Now their know it alls and can't do what people did for them and thats help them learn.I help when I can and will never tell someone to do a search.I only use the search option if I wanna find something I seen..

I love it, keep it coming guys.

You may not agree but it is a good question. You may not clearly see my point that I am trying to make.

Some people just love to bash and put threads down, I don't like guys like you. You give forums a bad name making it hard for people to even consider posting their opinion(s).

Just think about it, in the past we have lost points for providing short posts, etc.

Besides if your not interested in this thread hit your back space and keep it moving. I'm sure you have other threads / Forums to bash.

How is differring opinions "bashing"? Most people think that trying to make new rules to get someone in trouble is a stupid waste of positive energy. The rest of us think that "there is no stupid question, only the one you're afraid to ask or Nasscar][ will want to take away your cool points". Seriously man, do you WANT to help grow the hobby or just sit on the front porch and yell at the youngsters making too many blade farts?

How about we lessen the rules and "let freedom ring". I see a lot of people happy to NOT have a PM in their inbox from the Grinch claiming that you hit yet another no-no-rule in the long list of things not to do. I guess you'd make a good politician though with your willingness to make more rules/laws to discipline the common-folk with to make them conform to your vision of the way things should be.

The bottom line is that, as you can hopefully see pretty plainly, NOBODY agrees with you. Get it yet? Did you not notice that a couple of guys tried to help YOU by advising you to close the thread before you made any more of an ass out of yourself? Guess you're not the kind of guy willing to give or receive help. /sigh

If the forum was locked down to no new members, fine (but then you would have the normal club with a bunch of pissing, moaning old men that just **** in their diapers that nobody wants to be around anyways). but when new people are coming here all the time, asking questions about things they dont know, piss on doing a search, ask away. For the time that people spend ranting, raving and finally typing "Do a search", they could have just answered the question and moved on. This would have taken care of the question and everyone would have been happy. If you are the jack ass that pisses and moans about people asking stupid questions, move on and ignore the thread, not that hard! This is the kind of closed minded bureaucratic bull****t that is strangling this country. We don't need any new rules or laws. We have all this crap trying to control us, Our Government, Other Governments, This Forum and some people on this forum and other forums. I'm not controllable and never will be, I say what i mean and mean what i say, nothing more, nothing less. Look at the Policies and Rules for this site, My God. Half a dozen Rules could take care of everything that needs taken care of and it mostly pertains to keeping bad things out of the kid's view. The rest of us are adults and should be able to handle the rest of it on our own. If you can't, grow some thicker skin and quit being a whining little beotch.

P.S. Who really cares about points, Just like the heliman, senior heliman, veteran and professor BS. Its pretty easy to tell if someone knows what they are talking about. I've seen some typing by a so called professor that doesn't have the sense that god gave a fence post, so this whole rating thing is pointless. If you want a ratings system, then let people vote for points. Just because you spent your life here online posting "do a search" all the time doesn't mean that you know what the hell your talking about and certainly doesn't qualify you to be a professor.

Rant over, the hell with the flame suit, Bring it!

Nas,
I'll put it to you this way. How many conversations in real life do you stop and say "I already talked about that before so lets talk about something else". Hard to get more rude than that. Forums are conversations. Conversations evolve. Sometimes someone brings up previously discussed things in conversations. We all have choices. Join the conversation or not. Just because this is the Interweb doesn't mean we can't try a little social manners once in awhile.

Some of the way I see people behave in message forums, I find it hard to believe they have friends in real life or haven't had a fist to the face at least once. Me, I usually do a search for answers which is why you will rarely ever see me ask anything. At the same time, I could care less if there is a pinch vs thumb thread every other day. It is redundant, but I have found that I still end up learning something from some of those threads about the same old thing.

Lets be really honest with ourselves here. Almost every single question that could be asked about this hobby has been asked and answered, in one form or another. If we were to implement the no repeat question policy, we would never see a new question until a new product came out and the new people would feel like they entered yet another snobby elitist bs forum. What's the fun in that?
