Meh. I play with words for a living and if I were asked at work what a pilot does, the obvious answer is one who flies aircraft. In fact, the answer is so obvious our time is better spent analysing why someone would be inclined to bastardise the word in order to avoid applying it to an RC pilot. Let's break it down:

a) Trolling
b) Jealousy
c) Arrogance
d) Toilet trained at gunpoint

I'm going for D, with a side of C on a plate constructed almost entirely of A. Some people base a lot of their sense of self-worth on what they do for a living. And some of those people become full-scale pilots. A pilot with something else going on in his life or another avenue of gaining self-esteem would likely not give the steam off his sh** if someone flying a miniature version calls himself a pilot. Why would he? He'd look in the dictionary, see the definition, then go back to being awesome. Others... well... it's serious goddamn business. Sad, isn't it.

Not only do I PILOT rc heli's I also rc PILOT planks. They are both fun. I plan on taking up para-gliding this summer...those are also called PILOTS. So just because its not a "real" airplane doesnt mean you cant be a pilot.... if it flies and you control it, you're a pilot.I might not be able to fly well, but I can crash with the best of them.

It's just words in the end...

I have been flying full scale planks since 1976 10,000 hours later and I have seen some pretty piss poor skilled aviators who called themselves pilots?

Guys who bring large ships into harbor, are Harbor pilots, the guys who move millions of tonnage of cargo up and down the Mississippi are pilots. The name is older than aviation, so I say yes, for lack of any more appropriated term pilot works just fine, and as a " full scale" pilot, I don't mind sharing it

This statement is an RC urban myth. The real thing is actually much harder.
Not true at all, rc is harder ! the controls for the real thing are much more intuitive !
