looking for a better FBL servo for 450 pro FBL
I'm getting tired of replacing gears all the time in crash. I had align servos, they strip easily. Now i'm using HS 5065MG servos, they also strip easy in a crash, about the same as Aligns. So i'm either thinking of using replacing the metal gears with cheaper gears from HS-65HB. Or trying out the MKS DS95 i would like to know if the MKS gears better. Has anyone tried to them out in FBL heli and had them survie a crash? Has anyone down graded the 5065 gears to plastic.

What align servos were you running? I run the Align 410M and havent ever stripped them in a crash... If you are running the regular 410 servos I might try upgrading to the metal geared ones. I just bought a 3 pack of them from experiencerc.com for around 79.99

I am running flybar, so having that direct link is probably the difference for you... Hopefully you can find some good luck with it!

That is why i think the best solution is going plastic gears. My last 450 crash 2 of the hs 5065mg are striped out of 3. I don't care about the cost as much its just sucks on replacing them so often.

Knight-
Hate to be the be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately having a FBL 450 means stripping gears pretty much every crash. I am using 5065's in my fbl pro and every crash even a light one strips atleast 2 of the three servos. The problem with FBL is you need digital servos. The reason digital servos strip so easily (ex Hitec 65MG vs. 5065- same servo just one is digital) is that the 5065's being digital try to hold center and do not give in a crash like the 65MG's. The 65MG's are more forgiving which is why they never or rarely strip.

The way I see it you have a couple options:

1.) Just keep replacing metal gears- which is costly and for me just more of an inconvenience, OR but the 65 karbonite gears which will also strip but will be 3-4 times cheaper to replace every crash.

2.) You can get an aftermarket frame set sold by infinity hobby that uses mini servos- the metal geared mini servos will not strip out on you in a crash in a 450. It adds a minimal amount of weight but with fbl its really not noticeable and you wont have to replace servo gears anymore.

3.) Go back to the flybar- I personally don't recommend this

As far as I know, any of the micro servos will strip out with FBL. Its just one of those things that we have to accept for now atleast or you can go with one of the options above. Personally I like the mini servos because I can go out and not worry about stripping a servo gear, downfall with that idea is the cost of buying new servos.

Merry Christmas

Jetblue, I complete agree with you. I know the expenses in FBL's helis. But i'm just look to see if there is a way of avoiding some. Actual i just hate fixing servos.

I sugested on the FLB form, about the 3 axis unit support a bail out feature. Which would shut off the servos based on a radio input. Same concept as when you use TH you turn off the electric motor. I believe on the smaller size helis this would save some gears.

Well not yet, i just fixed back up with metal ones. This is the last time, but on the next crash i have 3 plastic gear sets wating. Also in every crash only the main gear striped. The gear that the servo arm is attached. So i was thinking of making a hybrid setup. Keeping all metal gears accept the main gear. I have been thinking of tryout the mks but @ $200 its a little much. And also i did not se any replacement gears for them. So if there no replacement gears i really don't want to spend $70 per servo on crash repair. Unless they actual don't strip lol then it would be worth it.
