Radikal 2G0 pitch & throttle curves
Hello All, Merry Xmas;
I hope I'm not asking for some help that is already covered in a thread somewhere, that I didn't notice. I'm new here, and to rc helis. I am asking if some one would be so kind as to share pitch and throttle curves with me. I realize that servo arm length will affect throttle curves, I will adjust for that. I'm using a Futaba 7C fasst radio. I am just learning, only want to work on my hovering skills. I appreciate your time, if you have any to spare. Thank-you, Jon. Peterborough, Ont.

Hey Jon,

Hopefully I can help you some. Do wish you had someone local to be at field with you but feel free to keep posting and I am sure there are several of us that will try to work you through this hill.

For throttle: Try to achieve a 1:1 for ball spacing. Meaning the ball on servo arm and ball on throttle arm are same when measured from center out. With your endpoints on radio at 100/100, this should give you full throw, may have to give or take on endpoints a little. Now that is set, bring your idle trim all the way down and point servo arm at throttle arm with throttle fully closed. This will now determine your rod length. Just verify it will fully open and adjust endpoints in radio if needed. This will give what is known as a "mechanical expo" setup which is helpful with gasser. I think the 7c has a 5 point curve. If so, Start out with like 0,20,35,55,100. I am sure you will need to fine tune but that should be in ballpark depending on what you want your headpeed to be. This is also assuming you are going to run a linear pitch curve, meaning mid stick is 0 degrees of pitch and hover is around 3/4 stick. I will post seperately on your pitch curve questions.

Also, check this link out, there are some build videos done by sparx who is very good at setups and engine tuning and knows the radikal as well as anyone out there. I think toward the bottom is a couple videos just on servos/linkages. If you will, watch the couple videos that deal with setup, a picture (video in this case)is worth a thousand of my words. After you watch, please ask away on anything still not sure of and I will help you get it squared away. Sparx explains real well.

One thing that may not be covered in video that you originally asked about is pitch curve range. If you are learning to hover, I would set up pitch curve where low stick is 0 (maybe -2) and top is say 10 degrees. Most like to hover at 3/4 stick so at 3/4 (point 4 on 7c)you should set it for about 5 degrees.

Radikal G20 pitch and thottle curves
ZMAN
Hi Mike, thanks for writing.
My biggest hinderance is that I am learning on my own here. Haven't been able to meet anyone with a similar heli. Great tip re: 1-1, so I should move the servo arm ball, one hole closer to the servo shaft.
I prefer to hover mid stick as I use my thumbs only. Further forward and I feel like I am 'over reaching' with my left thumb, and stretching to work the rotor. I have -2 at idle and +5 at mid stick. Full pitch is 10, coincidentialy. Curve numbers are similar to yours.
I have spent months in my spare time figuring out why I had such hard starting issues. Learned a lot from posts on here.End of story was air leaks out my yingyang. Insulator inserts backing out, because I didn't know to use bigger washers under the insulator to intake port screws. The bottom screw goes into a blind hole, which was too shallow for the screw length.Tightening the screw, sure felt good, but it wasn't pulling the gasket down tight. DOOOH The intake port was not machined flat, out of flat by .005 was 'as cast'with rounded outer edges, also caused the gasket to leak. Original carb was defective, I found more machining swarf in the passages than immagineable. Replaced it with a similar Walbro from my MCCullough leaf blower Sadly, it all took months of frustrating experiments in what little spare time I have. Only about 30 minutes total running time so far hovering. If I couild get it to start. To-day it is calm, about 20 F. Here we go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Thanks, Jon.

No problem. Glad to help. Yes, just measure distance of ball on throttle arm to the center shaft of carb and try to get the same distance on servo arm.
If hovering at half stick is more comfortable then certainly go for it. I would shoot for a 1700 head speed but not sure if you have anyone to check this for you while hovering.
At least take a buddy or someone with you when you go fly, always good to have someone else present just in case.

Let me know if you need any more help

Merry Xmas & Radikkal G20 pitch & throttle curves
Merry Xmas everyone.
Zman, your hints and curves worked well. Because of battery location, I had to put a 1/4-20 bolt through the tail fin, down at the bottom with 6 nuts on it to balace the Radikal. I'm using old landing gear from a 70's Schluter Gazell as training gear, also throws for and aft balance out a bit. It has been a frustrating time since May till now to sort out engine problems. Thanks to acholic and others who helped with tips and encouragement. Starts nearly first crank and hovers like an Acme Anvil from the Road Runner cartoons. Remember them? Good enough for me and my newby skill level. Best wishes for all on here for the New Year. Jon, Peterborough,Ontario.
