Tail blades
Hi guys,

Just thought I'd check and see how many of you are running 105mm tails vs 95mm tails? I've always run 105's on my two d3's but with such a high tail ratio (4.77), I'm wondering if it's better to run 95's? I've heard of a few guys doing it over here but just thought I'd see what every one else is doing and why?

95mm SWE here.
My take on this....
If your running over 1900rpm HS, use 95mm.
If less, use 105mm.

Right now, I run about 2015rpm.
Gav Broadbent has flown my D3, with no tail issues in high speed sideways loops.

95 radix, and no tail power problem for 3d.
Best of all, it is my experience that tail vibes/resonances are easier to avoid than with 105.

The grip spacing on the Hirobo tails is pretty wide. Thus 95 mm blades mean more on these models they might on some others. 105mm creates a lot of disk back there.

Why not just go 105's if they fit?

Excessive t/r disk consumes more engine power and increases the mechanical gain in the t/r control system, either forcing you to lower the electronic gain to a point where the gyro may be less effective or requiring an excessively small servo wheel which increases wear and tear on the servo's motor.

Another point to make besides the large dia of the tail hub is the tail gear ratio.

The Turbulence is 4.77:1 which is much higher than all conterparts in the 700class (except for the Aurora 4.9:1)
The larger hub and higher tail RPM will yield MUCH greater authorithy with only 95mm than a lower RPM with 105mm and even 115mm.

Santiago

Edit: sorry, I just noticed the OP already mentioned the tall gear ratio

Hi Piyaphan,

Will let you know what I find after testing, looking forward to it. I've got edge 105's on one d3, and radix 105's on the other.

Hi Gorn,

Didn't get to see it in person, but saw it on one of videos from the WA fun fly you guys had in Perth, that looked like a wicked event!
Would be great to do a post here with all the d3 flights from that event

Hi,

Running 95 on the tail. Tail resonance resulting in cut M3 tail support rod screws was terrible with 105's. Not one issue with the 95's. I also run stock plastic 92's and they were fine as well.

finally got to give the 95's a workout on both my D3's. Tail still felt solid through big tail slides and really big funnels in a bit of crosswind. Heli seemed to smooth out a bit as well and was able to crank up the gain even more, will definately be sticking with the 95's. Was no performance hit over the 105's and the tail actually had a nicer feel to it.Raptor 90 G4 / YS120SRX / VBar Silverline / Futaba / Rotor Rage / Edge
