EC145 600 tail question
G'day all,

I have just received a SmartModel EC145 - 600 and I am going to use Trex600/700 (bits from both) mechanics "when I have completed my Blue Thunder...". When I opened the box, I found that the tail fin setup is similar to the full size heli in that the vertical tail fins are set at an angle - pointing slightly to the right.
The full size heli is left hand rotation head and the standard Trex is right hand.

SmartModel have scale blades for right hand rotation - but I don't think they have left hand rotation blades.
Anyone know where I can get 600 scale blades for left hand rotation?

Will I need to flip the one way bearing and run the head left hand rotation because of the angled tail fins?
Is it easy enough to learn to fly with left hand rotation head?

Would I be better off sticking with right hand rotation and modify the tail so that the vertical fins face to the left. Not scale I know - I would prefer not to alter the tail...
Will the angled tail fins pose a problem with the right hand rotating head?
Another possibility is to set the fins straight - but again, not scale looking.

Anyone have any advice on this please.

Thanks guys,

Regards,
Jim

Hey Jim, unless you are entering a very rigorously judged scale competition with the heli, leave everything as you have received it. If you want to mimic the main rotor direction of rotation, you will have to flip the one way bearing and change two of the three wires to your motor if electric powered, to change its direction of rotation. If you fly with symmetrical blades they can simply be inverted to work in the CCW mode. There are LH rotation blades available from http://www.starwoodmodels.com/produ...multiblades.php , but the shortest they sell in the OF blades are 620mm.

They only difference you'll notice flying CCW main rotor is the heli leaning in the opposite direction during a hover. Easy to adapt to.IMHO.

Finally the angled fins will have little impact on how yor heli flys, so don't worry over that either.
My advice follow the K.I.S.S. principle = Keep It Simple Slippery.

G'day Hoverup,

Thanks mate.
I put the same request on Scalerchelis and got the same answer to the angled tail fin question. I will leave it as designed.

Regards,

Jim

ps. I shouldn't even be looking at this project yet - still a long way from completing my Blue Thunder.....

No worries there Jim. It's an early sign of heli addiction. I won't tell how many scale projects are underway in my shop and I've been to Rehab three times.
