the 80 HV will manage 160A max with cooling. if spikes are over 160A it will shutdown.....
where do you hold this from?
you should talk into wattts too
120 watts per helipound to hover and loop

6S stands for 24V
times 80 is
1920 W !!

and how is the motor handling surges ?
heat to controller ?

i say 80amp up to 700mm blades is fine
VT "slow&low"

The previous posters are absolutely correct. An 80A ESC is not terribly hard to shutdown on 6s especially on anything other than a mildly warm day. While it can be made to work, to keep it from shutting down you will need to either run conservative pitch curves, gear down, or run a higher than optimum gov setting. Any and all of these equate to a compromise in max performance.

Castle HV85 running in a T-Rex 600E for the past 4 years in both 6S and 10S configurations. Never failed, never even got hot. Hard 3D.

I should explain my CC comment. I was at IRCHA 2010. My wife and I were drooling over birds at the Mikado booth. One of the Mikado pro pilots was getting his bird ready to fly in a center stage demo. I was intently watching him while he did his thing. He installed and secured his batteries. All he had left to do was to fire up the bird and do the pre-flight stuff. As soon as he plugged in the batteries, a bright blueish white spark shot out of the ESC and quickly traced the bread board path around the electronics of the ESC. I cannot impress upon you enough how loud the crackling was, or how bright the "arc"...as though he was arc welding his bird (which is exactly what he was doing, given the amps involved).

This is the second time I have witnessed a CC ESC go up in a blazing Arc...once at our flying field in 2009 and once at IRCHA 2010.

Cancel Christmas products will never be installed in any of my rotary or fixed wing aircraft.

Now, does that mean I want everyone to boycott CC? Absolutely NOT! It means that from what I have seen personally, I am unwilling to take a chance. Also, since I have only been around helicopters since 2008, watching two ESC go up in flames...not good odds
