Scratch built RC Skydiver?
Ive been going over alot of different winter projects but this one seems to stay in my mind. An RC skydiver would add a ton of fun to flying. Ive looked at RTF models and the prices are ridiculus so scratch built it is. It would be great if someone can chime in if they had built one before. Everything is self explanatory to me except for parachute size versus weight, parachute material, etc.

The parachuter release is not an issue, Ill be using the hobbyking bomb drop setup
If you only have to bend over once to pick it up it's a good landing.

These things are so much fun. Even better when the chute opens before you release him. Mine had a MAJOR rebuild last year following an INCIDENT

hope your chopper survived, I'm picturing a chute wound around the rotor as the heli plummets. Hope it didn't go this way

This is what happens when sky diving goes wrong with helicopters

The chute deployed at 150' with the guy still hanging from the skids.

I did some research on this earlier this year and would love to build an R/C Skydiver. That would be a cool addition to any fun fly. During the research someone asked about using a paraglider chute to do skydiving and the answer by an R/C skydiving guru was "No". It has something to do with the airfoil differences. A paraglider has a different airfoil than a skydiver thus would not make a very good parachute. I don't know if you could modify the paraglider chute to skydiving, but may be worth a try.High Voltage just works better

Well i ended up fabbing a box for the servos and reciever to sit in, I figured itd be cheaper to strap somthing on the back of a big doll then buy one made for it. Now I just have to find a big army doll

A week or so ago I found a parachute on hobbyking for $24, so its going to be easier then I thought, well....the building part. Not sure if it will fly very well, time will tell!

We had one at our local fun fly. I thought it was very neat. The pilot with the skydiver ending up catching it in his own hand. Very coolIt's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!
