Head speed to fast can I use a 9t pinion instead of 10t pinion?
I have a TT redline 53 engine in my Raptor 50. I've been told that this engine is to powerful for my heli. I've tried 2 different transmitters (1st Futaba 7chp and now I have the DX6i transmitter). I don't know the rpms of the head but I know a guy that has been flying for years and he had to make my engine rich really rich to where the head speed is lower but the engine runs real sluggish! The main thing I want to know is can I put a 9T pinion gear in place of my 10T pinion gear? To slow the head speed.

This motor is perfect for your heli; I have been running this motor for 2 seasons with zero problems. In fact I have three TT53's. Mine has the OS carb mod and it pulls like a train through everything.

If your friend has been flying for any length of time, instead of messing with your needles should have looked at your throttle curve FIRST....

Lower the center/hover point and adjust accordingly to obtain your desired headspeed.

Are you using a governor? If not, you need to be tached to determine your headspeed. If you're using the stock plastic grips, don't go over 2150 RPM...

Just set your throttle curve correctly or install a gov. I have the 53 on my heli and it's great. Running an Align gov and 2000rpm head speed in stunt 1&2. Have fun, DCbeating the air into submission...........cool!

If you change the pinion you have to change the main, there's no way to adjust backlash in the Raptor.

As others have said, you're going about it wrong, that engine is fine for that heli and not as powerful as either of the bigger OS and YS motors.

Take JPhillips and dcbusdriver advice. To answer your question, You can not interchange the 9T and 10T pinions. 10T will only work with the 85T main gear and the 9T with the 86T main gear.
