The nature of our media here being heavily biased towards trying to make our politicions look bad works quite well, but it also has downsides, our politicians are so careful what they say there almost like robots just reading pre written bearocratic spin, even the slightest slip up and the press is all over it, a slip of the tongue here can bring down governments.

I was very impressed by Hillary clinton down here not so long ago, was refreshing to here someone in such a position of high office seem so down to earth, but when I think of previous presidents democrat or republican they do seem "less bearocratic" for want of a better word.

Our own recently elected queen duck is a perfect example of how boring an Australian priminister can be, its almost like listening to an automated message machine, there to afraid to say anything other than the pre written script incase the make a gaff and look like an idiot on tonights news.

EDIT: Charisma is the word Im looking for, our heads of state dont have any charisma at all, false faced and shifty also comes to mind.

I'm definitely a fan boy of anyone who fights for freedom. Unfortunately, many americans have lost this concept alltogether. Maybe the rest of the world can guide us back to the principles of freedom. Freedom of info and press is a big deal, and it doesn't exist in the US any more. Kinda sad that america has lost it's way from the vision of the founding fathers.
True America has lost its way in some respects.

But, how an American can be "Fan Boy" of a little tird in the military (that swore an oath to protect and defend his country) that leaks classified documents to another little tird with blonde hair that will most likely only enrich himself and at great risk to himself, and knows the first little tird (just a kid) could very well spend the rest of his natural life in prison is beyond me.

You are a "Fan Boy" of the above?

OK, you are what you are. You sound like that fat flake, Michael Moore.

Enjoy yourself. But, please consider staying in Canada. Or, anywhere else that keeps you outside our borders.

Its also important to note that Mr Assange was not too happy about the details of his court apearance and rape aligations being leaked to the press and made public, he is a very secretive man from all accounts.

It all depends how you look at it. The kid that swore an oath to protect and defend his country did just that. The government's actions are putting us all in harm's way. When your employer or your government is a criminal entity breaking laws, your duty is to blow the whistle, to protect the public. Now we have an international forum to bring these entities under the light of day, a real news outlet. Nobody here can give us what wikileaks does. We wouldn't need assange and wikileaks if our media was doing it's job.
This kid was protecting us, a hero. It's not like he didn't know what the consequences of his actions could be. We need to do something to protect whisle blowers. Jailing our nation's heros is not helping to protect us.

I don't think its acceptable practice to disclose your own governments classified documents and possibly put the lives of innocents at risk.

You matter how much you feel its was a heroic act, it still defies logic that a 19 year old snot nosed kid would risk the rest of his natural life in prison. Who knows what he was thinking when he did that. I'll bet the consequences of his act were not a priority on his mind. Surely, the consequences of his act are not a priority on his mind.

I wonder if his loved ones feel the same "Fan Boy" heroism on him now?

If he was your son, and you knew he was going to spend the rest of his natural life in prison, would you feel the same "Fan Boy" worship of heroism on him?

If you say you would, it would most likely be an admission of a very high degree of intellectual dis honesty.

What is more unacceptable? Turning a blind eye to corrupt illegal activity which puts MILLIONS of innocent lives at risk (or has actually taken lives), or the risk of that information putting a few lives at risk. Government and corporations have great protection in the US allowing them to conduct illegal and harmful activities against the public. Whistle blowers is all that stands between us and the harm these entities are perpetrating on us. We need to protect the heros, since they care about the greater good, at tremendous personal risk.

It's time to lift the veil on the corruption destroying our country. It's very difficult to do when the criminals are protected and the whisle blowers are not.

Wouldn't it have been nice to have a few whisle blowers on walll street protecting us from the financial vultures? They could have spared the american public a lot of harm and possibly averted the meltdown.

We need to protect the heros that protect us.

A whistle blower is one thing. To risk a 19 year snot nosed kids life in prison is another. Seems you have your whistle blower priorities a bit backwards.
Government and corporations have great protection in the US allowing them to conduct illegal and harmful activities against the public.
Please explain. Otherwise the above is simple BS and possibly an excuse to be a "Fan Boy".

Agreed. If you feel strongly about that, then get your tail back here in the US a get to the voting booth. Thats the best you can do. Seems to me, the worst you can do is what you are doing.

I doubt that would do it as the American public have been stupid enough to vote in lawmakers to prevent the above.

They are wising up a bit. Who knows if its enough.

That is the tragedy, the kid who protected us will be incarcerated by us.

The protection of criminal entities comes from lack of protection for whisle blowers.

Don't you think a whistle blowers primary responsibility is to himself and not risk life in prison? Thats could very well be his consequences.

Don't you think Assenges (sp) responsibility as an adult would be to not allow that to happen to a 19 year old kid for his own enrichment?

That's a lot of assumptions. How is he responsible for the kid going to jail? There is no evidence I've seen that involves Assange assisting in any way to obtain the documents. For all you know, this kid would have done exactly the same if wikileaks didn't exist.

A good point.

But, Assange was irresponsible to release them. Every country has its secrets. Most for very good reasons. There is some limits on freedom. And a price to pay for it at times. Sometimes that price is keeping secrets.

He (Assange) also, could eventually pay a very high price for his actions. He is hardly considered a brave warrior hero coming home from the battle field.

You obviously don't think so. But, a lot of Americans certainly hope so.

Your feelings on that subject are a very small minority that seems to get a lot of unwarranted attention with your big mouths.

Similar to that fat flake un American, Micheal Moore.

Welcome to his world.

You're entitled to your opinion. You should look in the mirror, your mouth is not small either.
And here comes the unamerican tactic, how predictable.

Maybe so.

But, my big mouth will never support a traitor to my own country.

Yours does, as well as big fat flake, Micheal Moore's.

Once again, welcome to his world.

You 2 ought to consider getting together to share a traitors thoughts to figure out how to better enrich yourself from the same.

Up to you.
