One of the pitfalls to nitro is tracing unwanted vibes. For the past month I've had a bad tail vibe and after sharing a video I made a couple days ago we found out it's a bad piston ring!!
Yeah a guy can pull his hair out tryin' to find those, but that's very good that you were able to find it in such a obscure place...that can be very hard to do sometimes!

Bob, gettin' ready to go flyin', I'll get that info to you later...

Thanks. I need some numbers to crunch. Too much of a hangover to do much of anything else.
What a way to start the new year. What a stupid tradition.

Hey Mrkt, some nice skills you've developed there. Nice.

I admit, electrical problems can be tough to troubleshoot but nitros can be a headache.

Lon, got the ring on the way. I hope this is the solution. I've changed just about everything on the heli and we have a funfly in a couple of weeks.

Bob, it's been quite a long journey since the HDX500 days

I'm sure just a few more posts on here to reach 100 pages of kick ass electric vs boring noisy nitro.

Actually a lot of this thread is senseless banter. One person will post "Nitro rules", then another will post in the next post, "Electric is the best", and so on. I personally don't care about the status of everyone including myself and don't see the point of it. HF does not have such a status on there site.

Back to the topic on hand though, its a new year and new things to come for both electric and nitro. I can't wait to see how much more the technology extends. I can't imagine nitro going much more advanced, but I do believe electric will make a few leaps and bounds foward. Soon enough you will see alot of lipo companies making the 65C that Thunder Power is coming out with and the 65C that XPS has now, even though I believe theirs is exaggerated.

Question for you nitro guys! If batteries in the next few years reach 500 plus cycles no problem, will you guys make the switch over, even if the flight time is maybe only 30 secs more?

I have an electric 500 heli and I'm lucky to get 100 cycles out of my packs. If I do I'm happy to get my moneys worth. I don't mind cutting my flight times in half for double or triple the power.

What prevented me from converting my 50 to a 12S setup is that my initial cost will be over $1k. That doesn't include prices of packs and I don't think it's necessary to calculate the cost of packs since you're paying for fuel up front and it's way cheaper than nitro. IMO, cost of lipos should not be considered in the calculation since it saves you money over nitro.

It will however take literally thousands of flights to make up the cost of a fast charging charger, power supply, generator, esc, motor, etc. Even if packs could last 500 cycles I still can't justify the upfront cost in order to save money a few years down the line.

For those that can afford a $2k charging setup more power to you. I wish I had that kind of disposable income but I don't like many others so I have to weigh out the pros and cons of what I do in this hobby.

I don't consider myself a nitro guy.
I consider myself a helicopter guy. I fly nitro and electric.
Can't make the switch if you're already there.

Whoaaaaa there partner! I have a very good charging setup and mine only cost me around $210. My charger is a nice 350watt for 150 bucks, but you can get a nice ICharger 1000W for $180, which is nothing. A pretty decent power supply will only cost you around $100 to $200, so you're no where near $1000. I doubt you will get many people with that high of a setup.

Lipos are definitely cheaper, but the upfront cost does suck. I went through nitro very quickly and hated paying so much money ever freaking week just for a gallon, which barely lasted a few days.

Ok, but say that electric gave you more flight time than nitro, and the batteries lasted for 500 cycles,, would you give up nitro completely then?

I think some people just like nitro for other reasons than power or economics. Clearly, electric is better for both. I fly mostly electric now, but I would never want to get rid of all my nitro helis.

There's just something about putting liquid fuel in a model that uses an internal combustion engine that is very visceral. That is something you just can't get from electric no matter how powerful it is. I think that is what BobOD experienced when he showed both to non RC folks. Most guys just liked the rawness of nitro.

It's cool, like watching rockets take off from Cape Canaveral only a couple of miles away when I lived in Merritt Island. There is this sense of danger from the noise and smoke that gets to me inside.

For this reason, it took me a while to warm up to electrics. Even though I had several 450's and a 600E for some time, it wasn't until I got a Logo 600 that the E bug bit me.

If you want good packs that last 150+ cycles for a 12cell setup and makes awesome power, you'll pay $960.00 for 6 of these to get 3 flights http://www.experiencerc.com/store/t...ipo-p-3371.html .When you hear people talking about the sponsored pilots get 150+ cycles, its because they don't run cheap HK lipos. If I get a Trex 550,i'll buy 1 of these at a time until I get 4 http://www.experiencerc.com/store/t...ipo-p-3372.html .Do what I did last night and ask Sponsored Pro pilots what equipment they run,its not Turnigys or Zippys lol.I was wondering after all the comments about pilots like Nick Maxwell and others getting well over 100 cycles.

LonR, I did ask a sponsored pilot and saw what they were flying...Turnigy 40C packs.

FYI, I went to the less expensive HK packs like Turnigy, FlightMax and Rhino because I had very bad experience with TP!
