BTW, the only reason for the OS 70 in this TREX is the 55 wasn't out yet. The only way to get really good power(like a good electric) from a 50 was with the carb smart...that thing worked great till the sensor broke which was fragile. The 70 could give us consistent HS and power cheaper than electric at the time.

The vid was an old flybarless protoype test flight in some crappy wind. Reason for the height because this guy is usually on the deck. The vid isn't intended to be a demo flight its a flight designed to test aspects of the flybarless system. You'll need to skip around to see the places to see the high power demand maneuvers.

More power/energy consumption equals less flight time no matter the energy source. That being the limiting factor, I'd choose the cleaner energy source

I love this thread!!!

That 90 nitro is a waste of time...
WHAT...you don't think it'll look good on my mantle?

Thanks for the tips Eco. Don't worry thyough....all machining is done professionally. And, I already run 620's on my birds.
Now seriously guys, what's with all the bickering? Sometimes a little is fun but...sheeesh.

I don't know...I've looked at what's been done previously but either it looks like it wasn't done the way I would do it or the information on how it was done isn't there. Basically, I see a reasonably similar energy to weight between nitro and electric with the electric giving higher peak and the nitro giving it longer. Just using pure logic and a little engineering would suggest there's very little reason one could not be configured to meet the other. So, to test this theory, I have set out on a goal to make my nitro able to use all it's energy in under 4 minutes. Once done...then I will know what the limitations are. Now, if this were a business, I should be more interested in what has been done before so I avoid re-inventing any wheels. It's not...it's a hobby. If I re-invent a wheel...it WILL be the best damn wheel I ever created. Get it? Hobby for me...not sport.

Anyway, one thing for sure, this thing will be able to lay a smoke trail across the field like no other. And an E-heli couldn't even compete here...well, unless Castle gets their method a little better perfected.

I like it! Carry on...

Don't pay any attention to my nitro bashing/electric promoting on this thread. I do it in the spirit of entertainment and jest only. I am very much interested in your project. Keep us informed

Now now...don't back off now. Always good to be challenged.

OH, and FYI, it was not LonR who inspired me. I think he was taking a vacation with some Aliens when the project became interesting to me. It was more Aaron....and all the responses that came from the e-side which just seemed a little too subjective and lacking in substance to convince me.

Just gotta stick a nice little jab in there somewhere.

A V-bar equipped heli doesn't mind the wind. Besides, it keeps all the plankers from going up.

I agree with rexxipilot about the plankers,, its nice to have them stay grounded due to the wind and we can fly anyway. I am not a big fan of the plankers,, especially this one guy at the field who can fly his for 25mins or more.
