Do the math on a 50E vs 50N.I know for a fact that nitro is cheaper for me to fly over electric.

The nice thing about having a nice, quiet Honda 2000i is that I can take it anywhere with me. I'm not stuck trying to find a power outlet, I have a portable one. Also, I use it in my business, for camping, and for outage back up, etc. And it can be ran all day on less than a gallon of gas...pretty cool!

I'll do it so things are even like flight time .

I get 12 tanks per gallon (48 tanks per case) on a nitro @ 8mins per flight but fill the tank up half way so flight time is even, thats 106 flights @ 4 mins.
I get 50 cycles with electric @ 4mins per flight.

Band1086,
Thats just more $$ you have to spend to fly electric haha.

How many outlets you get on that thing?
2 X 120V outlets...more than enough!
I get 12 tanks per gallon (48 tanks per case) on a nitro @ 8mins per flight
12 tanks / gallon means your tank only holds 10 and 2/3's oz...that's not enough for 8 mins of flight, at least back when I was flying .50 nitro's. I might have done that with a .30 though...
What are you flying that only has a 10oz fuel tank in a .50? I've never heard of that small of a tank being put in a .50...

Have we really broken down things so far that we are now worrying how much a flight cost per minute.

Man, if people are breaking things down that much then maybe R/C Sailboats might be the way to go. Use the wind, it's free.

Band1086,
Do some reading because 11/12 tanks is avg on a 50.Maybe you filled your tanks up until fuel went into the pipe .

I don't think that's right, more like 14 oz. We never got more than 9 full tanks out of a gallon with the .50's(no lost fuel in the pipe except when the engine was running). Sometimes had a header tank on, which used more, sometimes not. The .90's were 22 oz's. Arron I thought you hated exaggerations for one side...

We used all our fuel esp when we had a header tank on but got 10min flight times. 9 tanks / gallon. Leaving a third of a tank every flight is something we never did unless there was a problem with the heli.

Hey, why would you have one of those? Why not just lug a big battery to the field with you.

HAH...I got you back.

Answer: ENDLESS ENERGYYYYYYY

The top thread Lon gave me said some guy was getting 19-21 tanks/ gallon with his 50. He could get that done if he only used a third of a tank/ gallon

Well I know for a fact I got 11 to 12 tanks and flew for 8 to 10 mins depending on my flying that day.Over 100 videos on youtube and maybe 5% are 7 1/2 min flights. Also,I don't run header tanks..

Using Cool Power, I get about 9.5-10 tanks out of 1 gallon of 30% in my T-Rex 600N tank. I do use a header tank, but I usually only deplete the main tank.

OK lets use Lons calculations:
11 tanks per 18$ gallon is about 1.6$ per 8 min flight or 20 cents per minute of fun.

Lon deems his packs worthless at 50 cycles where most would argue closer to 100 on average but I use 80 to figure in the "hard 3D guys" like Lon and My buddy chuck who don't like to fly unless they can spank the crap out of it.

Lons 40C 2650 6S turnigy pack costs about 50$ from the HC USA warehouse here http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/...idProduct=14994
I suspect that Lon gets multiple batteries from HC hong kong for cheaper than 50$ but let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

So 50$ per pack gets Lon 50 flights at 1$ per flight or 25 cents per minute.

I've seen Lon fly his velocity and I've seen him fly his protos. Lon spanks his protos much harder than his velocity. If Lon flew his protos like he did his velocity I would think that more than 50 cycles could be achieved from his packs.

Now that's giving Lon every benefit of the doubt. For those who doubt, we can easily make the figures show that it is really more cost effective for Lon to fly his Protos than his velocity.

High Voltage just works better
