Efficiency curves for lower voltage in general are worse.
Then why does the Scorpion information above show a higher efficiency rating for the 1100kv versus the 550???

You don't need to answer that. I know why. But, that eff number is what most people go by....which was closer to what I was getting at.

And even though those were only the peaks, I can't imagine a 6S set up that would hit 9000W and 440A...I do not see that ever happening. High voltage just works better...and I'm excited about the comming 14-16S for even more shaft power!
And that is the issue that I think folks have been getting at . . . It's not so much efficiency, but rather sheer mechanics. To run the currents necessary to get the high powers at lower voltages, the conductors get large enough to make winding a motor of a reasonable size difficult at best. That (and I am not a motor designer, but am an EE) the larger conductors would cause the magnetic fields to likely be less concentrated, once again making the higher voltage config easier to do.

There are tradeoffs, though . . . take the voltage high enough, and the insulation required to avoid windings arcing over starts to present a similar problem as with larger conductors . . . just too much space taken!

On that subject....ever fly a 600 Nitro with a 2400 RPM HS?
Not glow, in fact I have run 2400 and 2500 on my 600 before. 2400 seemed like the sweet spot. Have you ever flown with 2350 on any 700 before...makes 600 size look a bit sick...
Then why does the Scorpion information above show a higher efficiency rating for the 1100kv versus the 550???
Because higher KV rated motors are slightly more eff., however, the system in general is not.

Contradictory If real world experience answers your question, why the need to continue??? (he says as he pulls chain )
Because none of you provided anything very conclusive.

SNJ was getting close although some of that data showed evidence the 2 were generating the same power.

An, BTW, it is still inconclusive. In fact, if I beleive Lon I have one story, if I beleive Ron, I have another.
Does not matter if I beleive my "gut" feeling. That is not very conclusive.
Contradictory eh? Nice try man.

Because higher KV rated motors are slightly more eff.,
Well, others were suggesting the opposite so just keep that in mind. I'm not always responding to you. I'm not sure I agree or disagree with your statement here but clearly there are different oppinions.
however, the system in general is not.
OK here we go.
Batteries...absolutely no difference.
Wiring...No difference worth the mention.
ESC...dv/dt leads to main eff limitation. as v goes up, eff loss goes up. Not too significant anyway but is in the opposite direction.

Isn't that the system in general?

THANK YOU! Some good technical thought. Not conclusive...but honest and probably a key factor.

Awesome...just awsome!!!

I love when the blade noise actually overpowers the engine noise. You just don't see that every day.

What the vid does not show, was the additional minute and change he flew before I started shooting.

No way, he had another min or 2 in there.

But, that doesn't matter. That answered the 4 min flight challenge.

Now if we can just get an 8 min e-flight as good as the AS T700 3G one in an electric, then we can call N and e even.

I'll bet, that thing is awesome, and the one hurricane look a little too close.

Bob you are hopeless. You refuse to see the facts that are right in front of you....there are MULTITUDES of HV setups and LV setups out there that exhibit the same idea....the LV setups come down hot and kill lipos, the HV setups on the SAME HELIS come down cool (IE more efficient) and have more power. No need for theories and conjecture for me....I know it just works....kinda like a direct to swash FBL head, my MAC, and VBAR
Have fun on your quest to answer a question that has been answered many times and proven time and time again..............Ron

BTW...you want a real simple test..... take 8717s and rung them @ 6v go fly and check temps. Then run them on a 2s lipo and do the same.....tell me which one ends up better ............Ron

Well, I dish it out so I suppose I can take it.
Please though...no shop for me here. This is strictly my fun time. Time AWAY from work. I won't get into such subjects...against the rules ya know.

Feel free to discuss elsewhere but I won't join in.
