Well, frankly, this thread is NOT titled "N vs e which has the most power for a few moments?"

Having said that, I started to lean out my 90 powered 600 this morning and let her rip. Holds 2400 RPM nicely. In fact, I simply cannot bog it. Just won't bog. It does not even seem to be straining! I actually didn't expect that with the gearing I have in it turning 620's at 2400. She really comes alive after about 2300.
This thing actually scares me. It's almost embarrasing to say that but what the heck...that was a feeling I haven't had in a while. My Logo made me feel that way a tiny bit at first. What a thrill this thing is. Hard core, keep on it power, plus smoke and roar.

Now exactly what would ever give you the idea that it doesn't run up there?

I just reprogrammed my multigov to 2500. I'm curious what she'll do.

I would NEVER run Trex 600 rotors at 2500 RPM!
Wouldn't dare on a stock Logo either.

Not running stock so no need for you to worry.

It started raining here though. Just a little drizzle...ah heck, I'm going for it.

They overdesigned the 450 but underdesigned the 600. Just my opinion of course.

Well, I know you e-guys are probably going to want to stick to you're e's and that's fine but a Nitro turning 620's at 2500 RPM is just not something you see every day. It is nothing short of unreal! You actually start to hear the swoosh of the blades over the Nitro above about 2300. 23-2400 definately seems the sweet spot. Boy did she start sucking fuel at 2500. Go ahead and bash it all you want, but nothing is going to take this day from me.
The only down side is I'm wondering if I could ever fly a 600 at 2100 RPM again.

About 10 or 12 flights today and she's now hanging in the shop dripping into a pan that has 25 years of Nitro drippings in it. Never had to tighten a screw...heck, never even wiped her down. I like a dirty girl.

You guys are scared of 2500RPM...man you guys must not be flying with the big dogs. There are guys that fly 90 sized E Machines at 2400 and its down right scary!

Its typically to be up at 2300 for wild 3D on a 600 size machine and 2500 shouldn't really be much worse on the airframe.

Thanks for the nice eyebrow lick.

Not that I'm not doing the same or anything.

Speaking of, it was not a heli running 2500 that was scary, it was a Nitro running 2500. I've done it with my Logo...that's what inspired me to redesign the one-way hub on that.

Just what kind of flight times were you getting up at 2500 Bob? Do you run a header, or is it a straight 440 tank?

I can have a 5:30 minute flight of some hard sopping smack flying. I don't really think flight time is everything?
Wouldn't 6 or seven ,8 10 minutes be cool??

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

I have a header...and stock T600 tank.

I didn't get a time at 2500...forgot to start the timer. I could actually see the level dropping while in a hover.

I got 6 minutes at 2400 though. Banging it around pretty good too. That was actually more than I was figuring. And I'm still somewhat rich. Landed with a head temp of 165 F...very cold...I usually run a YS at 210+. I'm actually not familiar with these 3-needle carbs so it's taking me time to get a handle on them.

BTW, SNJ, I said just about the exact thing you have been saying when I started in this thread last year. You CAN get good duration from an electric. But, you cannot get the same kind of power as Nitro at that duration. I actually didn't think so at the time...but now I know better. And, I'm not knocking electric. Love mine...but Nitro still fills a realm e just can't. And vise versa as far as I'm concerned.

And, in case you haven't been following along, I put the YS90 in my 600 just to see if the same worked for Nitro as it does for electric. Just put a bigger motor in it. I honestly figured it would be a little rediculous in the end...just a winter project to kill some time. But, it's actually becomming quite interesting. I was figuring to be less than 4 minutes flight time...but, today proved otherwise....so getting very interesting.

You guys are great and love to hear about your enthusiasm on either of your heli types. I do know that this subject will not be resolved soon until some new development happens in either nitro or Lipo. Then it will be temporary until the next breakthrough .
Gasser's do have their place and are advancing in performance and popularity . Just my point of view!!
Have fun in everything you do and all the best!
I will check in from time to time

I should strangle you Turbo. Thanks to you, I'm probably going to have to get a gasser now.
Perhaps next winter's project...if I can wait that long.

No Gasser for me, still gotta deal with that nasty liquid fuel every flight. Get a little on your fingers and that smell has to wear off. With a gen, I fill once in a day or weekend from a 2 gallon can, or at FF's I use extended run tanks and never refuel. And Gasser's have nowhere near the power to weight ratio of even a common E...yes, longer flight times, but flying with a well set up E, esp 700 size, is so intense, I don't need more than 5-5.5 mins. And if I was just cruising around, I'd get boarded if the flight was long anyway. When the batt tech improves enough to get 10-12 mins of FT, I will definitely never over run a batt!

Bob, I can see a gasser in your future. After all they have all the attributes you like: long flight time, a lot of noise and low power to weight. They are easy on fuel cost too, but you may not like the lack of the smoke compared to nitro.

My only caution for anyone considering a gasser is high vibration levels. Parts are always coming loose and/or falling off. Then there is that gas smell. Must be kept outdoors, or use white gas/Coleman fuel to prevent gaging on the fumes while storing and transporting.
