I just had my rear bearing go bad on my O.S. .55 HZ-H Hyper Ringed "2010 Heli-Jamboree Edition" engine. Has anyone else had problems with the bearings? It ruined my piston and ring when it went bad.

Just do a search, it is a well known problem with the 55's.
Mine died running rich in less than 2 gallons.

Good grief, this O.S. bearing thing is getting old. How are you guys breaking them in? Ya know, a proper break-in takes the load off of the bearings...one of the major points of break-in. I'm just curious..I only have 1 O.S. engine, and it's been just fine, although I don't fly it a lot.

At any rate, I hate to hear that. Good luck.

You can usually tell when a bearing is going bad. You go through glow plugs and it has that sound! So then replace it when this starts happening and you will save the motor.

There are several signs to when the bearing is going bad.

Glow plugs failing
Excessive noise when flying from the motor
Excessive vibration
Excessive noise when starting the motor
Flight time reduced

You should always be watching for these type of issue no matter what.

I noticed that I was getting a little less flight times at our last event. Also the motor was a little more noisier while starting and flying it. I changed both bearings as soon as I got home. All issues went away.

You should have a set or 2 of spare bearings for the motor. Keep track or have a ideal of how much time is on the motor. Do proper break ins at the beginning and defueling of the motor after flying for the day.

Be prepared to change bearings. It's part of the maintenance of a RC helicopter.

If you do not fly a lot it's important to make sure the motor is stored properly.
