I need to upgrade my ageing 6 channel 35Mhz system to something a bit more shiney and new - but even Santa is short of cash this year!!

I really need 8 channel and had looked at the spektrum DX8 but am a bit concerned by some of the posts I read here.

So how about an Aurora 9 or something else ? - if anyone has a recommendation good or bad then please let me know.

Oh - and sorry if I have missed a similar thread here (I did look) - please feel free to point me in the right direction.

DX8!! I have used Futaba 7c, JR 9303 and 11x, and the DX-8 is my favorite. Very easy to program.

if your weary of the dx-8 i would say you can get a used 9303 for a good price or a new 9503 would be great too.

Who cares... its just money...

The version 3 software has solved the issues on the DX-8. But a 9303 or 9503 would be a great choice too. Seems like more people fly Spektrum/JR so it is a little easier to get help at the field.

sold the aurora to get the dx8 comes more complete with sd card and telemetry module and sensor and programs easy.As for the aurora it is a mighty fine radio but to get the upgrades you have to buy the interface module and for telemetry you have to buy all of that all though receiver pack voltage telemetry is built in.

When you do get the DX8, save the box it comes in... when you have to get it serviced it will perfect for the return to Horizon.

A friend of mine does it 3 to 4 times a year with his DX7. He's glad he saved the box.

I have been flying spektrum/JR for years, personally never had a problem.
He uses spektrum 2.4, not a JR 72 MHz.
He's had trouble with 'frozen screen', lock-outs, unexplained manuevers etc., another 3 club members had roughly the same stuff happen. sadly they've had a few broken helis/planes over time with this.

The Futaba 2.4 guys who seem trouble-free tell them to make the switch to Futaba, but the spek guys just love the programming and do not want to give that up.

One guy is actually getting tired of the unexplained crashes, he's going to switch to Futaba if it happens again.

Go with Spektrum or JR. DO NOT GET THE DX8. If you want problems then get it. Just look at the 11X or 9503. I was gonna get the aurora but then I saw the 11X and 9503 in the sneak peak stuff online and mags, I would get one of these radios. I am having a tough time deciding.

Whats life without a lil danger

Radio choice
DX-8. I previously flew Futaba. I switched to JR and never looked back. Most of your spectrum unexpected crashes will be traced back to voltage problems. It usually is a binding servo. I still have a 9303 and just switched my 500 VBar 4.0 with satellites only to it. The only real quirk was the throttle ATVs had to change for throttle hold. It took me a whole 2 minutes to fix that. The sticks are awesome. I don't know the Aurora but I helped a Futaba guy yesterday. It took 3 times longer than it should have.

I would go with the DX8. I bought one the first weekend it was out and I love it. programming is a breeze and the telemetry is so useful.
