Any financial analyst would avoid this hobby as a plague.
Good point!

That's exactly why you don't see any public R/C companies. The R/C industry is a peanut in industry.

Nice job on lifetime memberships, Mark.

Was thinking about an AMA Lifetime membership but that's as far as it got.

Hmmm. That was not exactly the point I was trying to convey.

I would not describe Align as a peanut. I would imagine that even the RC segment of their balance sheet is fairly significant. They may not be publicly traded but I would say there are some medium sized RC companies out there (more than 100, less than 1000 emloyees, greater than $10M in annual revenue, not quite enterprise level). It would be interesting to find out.

I dont think you really should look at an AMA Life Membership as an "investment" or way to save money.... Sure it does help lower the cost... I mean I wish my parents did it for me when I got my AMA membership when I was 12.

I got a Life Membership, because I wanted to support an organization that promotes and preserves the hobby as a whole. I look at this way... there are few activities a parent can do with their child... modeling is one of them... and its an activity that you can do with a teenager... which is awfully hard to find.

So be a Life Member to support the AMA, not as an investment... but hey you do save a few bucks too.

@Terrabit - It's all relative.

@joec - +1! That's the reason I'm thinking about a life membership, to support the AMA. I wish I had done it when I was younger.

If I make it, they will just have to make up a new card.

I think there was some old hag in Japan that lived to be 131, doubt she had lifetime AMA membership though.

Look at this way, if you make to 2100 you AMA membership between now and then will have cost you less than $17/year in 2010 dollars!

That is 90 years.

Guess how much your $1500 is worth at 5% compount interest even if it is compounded once a year.

I wonder how much certain items in this hobby will cost in 90 years? Such as Nitro, if it is still being used.

Blade 130x (5)
Trex 550 V2 (18)
Shuttle ZXX
Freya Xspec (20)

I'll bet anyone $1500 that nitro is not being used for RC applications in 90 years. Takers?

Way Cool Mark!!!
As for Nitro being around that long????????????
I think so, its already been around since who knows when! Quite awhile. Unless we get nuke engines for these bad boys!! But other than that, you got people that just love their nitro fix!! Others that love the batteries!
