Just on the IRCHA Membership. The AMA has an expiration date which IMO should have been lifetime.

If you put $1500 in a vehicle that carries 5% compound interest, that money would be $6482 at the end of 30 years.

For 2% CD during this bad times, in 30 years it would still be $2717

For 10% government bond, it will be over $26,000

You can also do CD with a 4% that mature annually. In that case, $1500 principal will yield about $60 intrest so basically you will be AMA member for life with your $1500 still intact.

The financial model used to set the $1500 does not make much sense for any lump sum payment.

SEE DOOD* post a few up.

Yes, anyone can become a life member.
The cost is either a 1-time fee of $1500, or 4 annual payments of $375.
Dood was referring to AMA cost.

I was asking about the IRCHA cost to become a lifetime member.

Thank you very much.

$1500 in a vehicle that carries 5%....
So it sounds like a bad investment except when you factor in time for yearly renewals. What's you time worth?

[1500/58=26] In round numbers (26 years), after age 83 it's a free ride.
I was asking about the IRCHA cost to become a lifetime member.
IRCHA life was $500

I think that is pretty cool I need to get one that says "SMOOTHIE"

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

I make sure that I don't get involved in doing it. Sandra does it for us both.

Zero time spent.

$500 for a life of IRCHA sounds more reasonable.

I guess it's because you don't NEED to be a IRCHA member to fly, but you MUST have an AMA.

Plus AMA has a much nicer looking card.

Al,

If you consider the IRCHA renewal is only $20/yr, you are paying for 25 year worth of renewals. It turns out $1500 is also 25 years worth at $58/yr.

This of course assumes that the membership will remain at $20.

If you factor in her cost the whole rationale falls apart.

I've let my AMA membership lapse, but couple years back a personalized number request was no charge...

I just emailed a Registrar at AMA and it was a done deal.

I have no argument for this.

But, I wrote it off as a cost of doing business. So, I'll do my best to get the maximum mileage as possible.
