I'm currently looking at a model for sale with an SPH5 fitted. Is this a good unit, or is there anything I need to look out for.

Is this a two stage system with the gearbox driven from the thrust of the main unit or is it direct drive?

Is the unit current and readily supportble via Jetcat?

The SPH5 is a 2 stage system with a 90 degree gearbox for the output.

Very nice system if you have something in mind to fit it into ?

Value for money would also depends on the asking price ????

This unit is currently available from JetCat suppliers as is full back up.

Is it a good buy
If it is the vario acrobat/HobbyParts/JetCat with carbon side frames and baseplate, That was aan early test bed for the HobbyParts conversion
At that price it is a very good buy, I built that conversion, and know the JetCat turbine was serviced regularly
If it needs a service now even at £500.00 approx, you will have a very good unit for a scale project, although I have never put an Acrobat into scale
Good luck with the deal

I have the SPH5 in a Century Pedator and it's very powerfull, I have also flown the SPH5 in a big Vario jetranger(Bernd Poting Germany) power enough and a great sound.

Well I bought the model. On the first flight it flew very well right up until the gearbox failed (locked solid). The model auto'd down from about 70 foot up OK. The turbine and gearbox had a service and overhaul earlier in the year and has only done 2.5 hours since then.I've sent it to Jetcat in Germany. I'll be interested to see what they say as I've had no previous dealings with them. You would hope that they would honour it if it failed so soon after the service.

And yes lubrication was going into the gearbox because my friend commented before it took off.

On the plus side I think will enjoy it when I get it back as it gave me loads of confidence on the first flight.

Service/overhaul
Good news that you have bought it
Did you see a receipt or estimate, for the work done? or were you just told?
With all my dealings with JetCat that particular turbine came straight down, straight down into a tree, after the destructive testing of the airframe/mechanics , when it returned fom being serviced it had the new style gearbox fitted "IN FAIRNESS" which is at JetCats expence
I have advised prospective second hand JetCat owners to contact JetCat before purchasing, they keep records of all servicing, and it is freely available
Get the turbine back to Germany as quick as you can, 3 working days after you have sent it, e-mail Germany ,to see if it has arrived, then follow that with another e-mail asking for a completion date, they will give you a week number when they estimate the work to be done

Peter,

Yes I have a copy of the invoice done earlier in the year so that all looks in order.

I'll provide an update when I get a response from Jetcat.
