Does anyone have any information on the quality of the kits the two captioned companies make? I am looking at building the Bell 430 turbine and just wanted to get some feedback from someone that has maybe build one from either of these companies.

Regards

Lawrence

I've never seen HF but IMO Vario is the standard by which others are judged.

Thanks for the response. Have you built any of Vario's kits?

Vario Kits....
I would have to agree with BarracudaHockey..... and I too have not seen or done anything with HF....
But, yes I have built 3 of the Vario heli's so far and am quite pleased with the quality and the finish as they come... and also the end results....
I have built the Hughes 500E, Jet Ranger lll, and the Bell 230 and each has been a pleasure to do.... plus any scale fittings needed are also available..
Both the Jet Ranger and the Hughes 500 have won several shows, and my best finish with the Jet Ranger (so far) is 3rd place in scale competition at the NATS.....
The 230 is still being constructed, and I am looking forward to having it ready to go for next season...... Hope this info will help you out...... Stan

I have built many Vario kits including the 230 which is a two blade version of the 430. The vario kits are very nice and can be detailed to any level you choose.

ScaleKing, I built a Vario Bell 47 G III 1/4 scale almost two years ago and in my opinion they are unbeatable. The kits go together nicely and everything holds up in actual use as it should. I have approx 300 flights on mine and it has yet to fail a part. That said, the real longevity and pleasure comes with how you maintain the bird, just like the real one. Good luck, you won't be sorry, and Joe Howard is the best !!

Thanks a lot guys...this is very helpful. I was talking with Dan from Vario Canada (who is also the dealer for HF to NA and SA) and he was telling me that the HF kits come a bit more prefabed than the Vario ones. Also the landing gear is installed already and is more sturdy than Vario's. So you end up paying a bit more for all this extra work that they have done but it is worth it according to him.

I'm building a Vario Huey UH1D model right now and I can say that the quality is very good. My huey has carbon reinforced doors, which really helps to retain the shape. But they are a true builders kit, a lot of work, trimming etc., but I really enjoy building. If you're not an experienced builder, or you have an issue reading/understanding/interpreting blueprints, then they are not for you. The huey has no build instructions, only blueprints. Just MHO and .002

True...I don't mind the building. I mean what else do I have to do with my time (lol) I am just trying to figure out if it is worth the extra bucks for installed landing gear etc. or is there some other value to the HF kits over the Vario ones.

Now that would all depend on the difference in price and I haven't priced them out, so I can't chime in on that one... But it would be really nice to have a kit that didn't require all the grunt work of cutting out windows and fitting doors. Now if someone was so inclined to send me one of these, I'll build it and give some input, but I keep the heli
