I have a 50 Hyper that runs for a few minutes then shuts off. It starts right back up but when it gets to about 2/5 throttle shuts off. Another thing it does is it floods. If I don't start it up right away after it shuts off I have to remove the plug and unflood the engine. Anyone have or had the same issue let me know or what your suggestions are. Also replaced the #8 plug 2ice, replaced filter, replaced all tubing including inside tank, fuel flows without bubbles. will run at idle without shutting down.

first guess: sounds like your low needle is too rich

but it's definitely related to balance between low and high needles

Sound like idle needles rich to me too. As for the flooding ar eyou using a shut off valve between the filter and motor? Something to pinch fuel line off.

If the shut off is working and used Right after motor shuts off it's pretty hard for the motor to flood. Just a thought but check the brass exhaust nippler for trash. Maybe letting enough pressure to come off idle but not enough to get pass 1/4 + throttle.

also today, try this......

with the engine running at idle, simply close the fuel clip to the carb.
then see what happens. it should run for a couple of seconds, speed up and die.

Also when pinching fuel to shut off engine time from pinch to off should be 5 seconds . this always give me the best idle setting.

I'd recommend reseting the needles to factory settings.

do a pinch test for the low end, it should shut off around 3 seconds. thats a,... one thousand one, bla, bla and not 1,2,3.

now if it shuts down on transition, from high to low. then it is the high end needle:

If it gurgles and shuts down; the high end is rich.

If it just shuts down; the high end is to lean.

dwight2k, my hyper used to do exactly what yours is doing untill i cured it. All i done was learn how to tune it. I had been flying nitro models for over 15 years but this was the first time i came across a main needle that only had to be turned 2 or 3 clicks to make a hugh difference to the mixture because of the very steep angle of the taper on it. I was used to needles with very shallow tapers that needed half a turn a time to make a differnce. I was screwing it in and out till frustration made me take it to another guy who was flying a hyper. Basicly i was running it far far too rich. A couple of minuites and he had it going where it has never looked back since.

If it doesnt move and its meant too... use WD 40. If it moves and its not meant too...use duct tape!

Hey guys thanks for all the suggestions. Believe me if I've not tried them already I plan to. Got off work late today so no chance to try anything. Immunizations are mandatory in the Army so I had to stay late and monitor procedures. Hopefully I'll get a chance tomorrow. Keep suggestions coming, I'll try em all.

Thanks again,

V/R
Dwight

Dwight - you also mentioned that you've been having an issue with flooding. I had a similar problem until I realized that I was overfilling the tank and when I picked up the heli to carry it to the starting area it naturally went nose down and let fuel backfeed through the vent line into the muffler and then into the engine. Took me a while to figure out what was going on - haven't had a problem since.

Ron.
Oops - that's not what I meant to do!

Check your clunk and fuel lines, sounds like you have a oneway flow valve in the line, also when you shut the heli off put your line pinch to shut the fuel off untill your ready to fly again

I replaced all lines and fuel is flowing free with no bubbles.
I also started pinching the line to shut it off and thats been helping with the flooding.

Took it out this weekend and prettm much did all you guys suggested. It ran and shut off but didn't flood. I put the needles back to factory settings and noticed that I was able to hover but it only ran at a very low RPM which I found out was normal and burned a lot of fuel. Gave it to my buddy Copter Doctor and he did the patent "HMMMM". He pinched the line for about 2 seconds to check for RPM rise and make sure its flowing right. Messed with the high end needle a lil and checked all the lines and muff. After he did what he did he was able to take it to a hover and bump the throttle a few times to to make sure it doesn't shut off. Made some more changes to the needle and hovered a tank. He told me to run two tanks through it and let him know what happens. Already ran one low level normal flight. gonna take it up a notch today and fly a lil harder to see what happens.

Gernejr, z11355, Zaneman007 I did the pinch test and it was around 4-5 seconds.

I said this before and I'll say it again Runryder should pay a few guys to start a Maintenance/Setup/Troubleshooting page. The knowledge in this forum is limitless.

dwight2k, I have had similar tuning issues in the past and found the muffler/pipe was the culprit. If the needle tweaking has fixed the problem then kudos, but if you still have issues try the quick test and put on another muffler.
