I had flown my UH-1 Huey with a 3s2200 30C pack, stock 3500kv motor, 11t pinion, non-gov mode, 80%-flat throttle, stock woodie blades. When opening the hatch to pull the battery, I noticed that the air coming out of the fuse was pretty warm.

The ambient temp outside was close to 90*F or so.

Any ideas on what can be done to help reduce the temps?

Have thought about going to a different motor, not sure which one...

...or, to go to a higher cell count, 4s1800 or equiv., 6s1300, idk?

...cutting out the side door windows?

any other suggestions?

I'm looking to keep the head speed low for scale flying of course, maybe in the 2400-2500 range.

Change the motor.
The stock motor is under size for a scale machine, it gets hot without a fuse.
I have this one on my Cobra and it runs cool on 3s 12t pinion

For a lower speed you could try this one

You could also run a Scorpion 2221-10 3000Kv or a 2221-12 2580Kv

Gimpy,

I also have a Cobra, same power system.

What headspeed are you turning?

What are your typical flight times?

stock woodie blades
the wood colored ones with the holes??..if so ditch them ASAP.they EAT amps and really make for a hot set up,for me just switching to align woodies made a HUGE difference in heat and added almost 2 min to the flight time.I have since gotten some CF blades that work well but for the price, the Align woodies cant be beat

I flew 2-3 flights with the stock blades and measured mah used and temps then flew the same type of flight ith the align blades, the difference was significant

@Darkfa8

Don't know the HS but at 60% Gov on my Jazz I get 10min using 80% of 2300 pack. I just bought some Spin Blades Asemetrical 325's which one guy runs at 1500rpm for a 20min flight (supposedly)

Scott,

I noticed that your buddy is running flybarless, very nice!

I have CF Stealth 325 blades on my Cobra with a Kasama flybarred head. I think I'll probably try a milder (lower KV) motor on that first and then maybe try a similar combo on the Huey.

...and yes, I was flying the stock, black shrink-wrapped woodies that came with the RTF Cobra on my Huey.

I am converting mine to FBL right now. I bought the Sonix head which fits well, just have to change the outer balls on the swash to mini titan and your good to go.
I will be running SK-360 with 401 on tail.
I bought a 2500kv motor from Hobbycity to try, it looks to be identical to a Z-Power. If it works good I'll run it, if not at least I'll know if the Kv is close and will order a Scorpion HK2221-xx to suit.
