I just thought I would share my latest project with everyone. I created a true 400se and can honestly say I'm more than extremely satisfied with the results.
Logo 400 w/ mini vbar
4020-1100 w/ 13T mod .7 and a head speed of 2000rpm
CC Ice 75
HS 5245MG on cyclic and BLS 251 on tail
Turnigy 6s 30c 3300mah batteries getting 5min of flight time (mild 3d and big air)
Edge 523mm blades
Logo 10 tail tube with a modified Logo 600 tail w/ KBDD 92mm

This heli is a beast. It feels very close to my 12s Logo 600. Below are some pictures comparing the 400se with a stock 400 as well as my 600.

Very cool ,I had a few L 10 and always liked them , the blades look very close to thetail blades , I think back in theLogo 10 days the stock boom was good up to 515 max.

The blades are close to the tail but not as close as they appear in the pictures. I guess I took the pictures at a bad angle. The difference between 515s and the 523s is only 5/16" so it is maxed out for sure.

ESC
I would be careful with that esc I have a standard logo 400 with that esc on it and if I fly it hard enough I can shut it down and I'm not a hard 3d pilot, just a warning.

Thanks for the warning Jeff. I did plan on replacing the ESC although I never had a problem with it in the past running 430s. I'm sure it is pushing it much harder now. I haven't had time to data log but will try to this evening to see exactly what it is pulling. One thing I did notice is that the motor and esc are running much cooler. I know that it doesn't prove anything but I thought it was strange. Motor temp was 150-160 and now 113, esc was 120-130 and now 108. I will try to get some data logs posted soon.

I've flown this heli and i'm very impressed. Even at a relatively low 2000 rpm, with the big 92mm tail blades, the tail locks in extremely well and the collective punch is awesome. i would say it feels like flying a slightly smaller 600se on 693s. It has the same instantaneous collective pop due to the low weight and big disk. It does lack a bit of the locked in feel of a larger heli, but still feels much better. Something i never liked about the stock 400 with 425's was the collective always felt soggy. You could feel the heavy disk loading. This fixes that problem! Ron hasn't data logged yet, but you can knock it around pretty good on 6S 3300 30C lipos, and get 5 minutes with about 25% left. If one were so inclined, you could probably find a rather flat 8S pack that would slide under the pinion and go that route as well.

Having flown it, i have to say its a very worthwhile stretch, basically makes the 400 fly like a 600/600se but with lower battery and setup cost.

We'll have to keep an eye on the ice75, it may be fine as neither Ron or I fly smackdown type 3D.

Nice heli Ron, great idea!

What main rotor gain are you running on the mini vbar V5?

Can you post a vibration spectrum please (without main blades of course)

I'm chasing vibration problems on my Logo 400, and it would be good to have a comparision.

I have a Logo 10 boom already, so I want to go this route as well.
But I may try 465mm blades with the stock boom.

Thanks, Paul

Paul, Unfortunately I'm running V4.0. My original stretch was with 470s and it was a little poppier but not as impressive as I had hoped. Could have been the fact that, although I changed gearing and head speed, I was still using the same motor (3026-1400). Just didn't have the shear power that my current setup has. If it would be a help I can post my vbar file this evening. Let me know.

God Evning!

Happy reading about your logo 400se! Nice heli you have there!
I also own a logo 400, and dont like the high headspeed, the headspeed its around 2700. So when i read about your 400se i ordred the long logo 10 upgrade boom and belt. I run a scorpion motor with 1470 KV. Dont remember the number, but i think the engine is in the 3000 series. My plan is still to use this engine, but change to a diffrent pinion, 13-14. The headspeed will be between 2000-2200. I fly very light 3d/ sport flying.
Will i gain some longer flight times with lower headspeed and 50cm blades.
And wil it preform well to train basic scills? FF, iverted, loops and rool?

Thanks!

Ray!

Very interesting.

After flying my Logo 400 V-Bar for a month on 4.0 I thought it was the BEST flying heli I've even flown. Then I upgraded my L500-3D to V-Bar (using 5.0) and it flies better than the 400.

I honestly don't know if it's primarily the difference between V-Bar 4.0 and 5.0 or if it's really the heli itself. Both are setup VERY close (Jives, Rotortech blades etc.)

I actually had the thought of selling my L400 and getting another 500 but this 400SE project makes me think...

I should probably upgrade the 400's V-Bar first and see if that makes a difference. That said, it's getting close to winter here so I should probably wait until spring.

Dave, I used to feel the same way you did about the 400 until I got a 600. After flying the 600 the 400 couldn't compare. Don't get me wrong, the 400 is an awesome heli in its own right just small and a little sluggish but always smooth and locked in. After doing this converstion I have been blown away at the performance increase. It feels very much like my 600. (although not a 600 by no means, just similar feel). Why wait until spring? With one readyheli order you can be flying it this weekend.

Jakobsen, It performs perfectly with everything that has been thrown at it so far. I'm only proficent in mild 3D (loops, rolls, flips, some invert) and it's great. My flying buddy mmc205 banged the heck out of it with some tic-tocs, rainbows, ect and it never skipped a beat.

absolutely a worth while conversion.

Lowered the main rotor gain a few points, that was it. Everything else stayed the same.

Thanks.

I'm going to just fly it the way it is now because in a few weeks it will be too cold (for me) to fly outdoors.

We'll see how I feel next spring about stretching the 400.

If you thing it's good on 520s you should try it with the 620mm boom and 550s. Been flying my logo 10 like that for a couple of years and it is

i haven't flown a 400/10 on 550's, but as i've found out with my 600se, too light of a blade loading, especially in wind can make heli feel too "floaty". There seems to be a nice balance of blade loading and weight that makes the heli sit well, as well as gives good collective pop. I feel like the 400 with 523's and 3300's is that nice balance.

I actually prefer my 600 in any kind of decent wind compared to my 600se due the the slightly heavier blade loading and the ability to fly better in the wind and not feel so responsive in wind guests that are directly into the rotor.
