I have a few questions about converting a Chinook;

I am not a Chinook owner just yet, but looking into what is involved with converting a Chinook to electric power. It seems alot of people that have converted over already have used the Castle HV85 ESC. Reading on some other threads, it does not seem that Castle puts out a reliable product, I dont know Im just going off of what Ive read. Some suggest going with the Kontroniks Jive 80. So what Im wondering with the Amps is, how close to the capacity of the Castle HV85 does the Chinook conversion come? If the Jive 80 were used, would it over Amp?

It seems that alot of conversions used the E-Flite Power 60 motor, is this still a good choice? With the way technology is these days it seems there would probably have been 2 or 3 better motors come out by now. Any suggestions on a motor? What are the key features of a motor to look for in this application?

Battery power, If you had it to do over again would you change your battery setup, or do you feel you have the power the model flies good?
What do you have, what would you change it to?

Thanks for any help,
Howard

Hi I am really not familiar with the Hirobo but will do my best to answer your questions.

I have been using CC ESC's for 7 years or so and never had an issue with them, I think all electrical products can fail, the perception you are getting with CC is due to the number of people using them with consequently more fails reported compared to Jazz etc. 80/85A is right in the ball park.

You want a low KV motor to give lots of torque as opposed to pure head speed. The balance will be on the pinion/maingear ratio, the problem with a low KV motor is that you will need a higher tooth pinion to get back the head speed. I would imagine you will be looking in the 700>900 range and use 8S power. Manufacturer is up to you at the end of the day balance cost against quality.

Reading through this forum will give you lots of tips, hope this helps
