Step Three:

I used Permatex Ultra Copper Sensor Safe High Temp RTV Silicon Gasket Maker. Probably would have been better off using something specifically meant for electronics. But I had this on hand.

After taking the pics I added just a little bit more onto the rudder sensor and closed everything back up. Should be able to try this out Saturday afternoon. If anyone is interested in the tweaking I have been doing with the 3G check out my thread here http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=228484.

Is this the same as you did with yours as far as amount of silicone and placement etc.

modded
I put more on than in the last pic. I put glue on up as high as the top of the square sensor units, and more on the circuit boards. I just tried to create a cube shaped gob of silicone that was as large as I could and not touch the sides or top of case, except for the tabs which locate and position the sensors.

It will be interesting to see the results of various glues and amounts and areas glued.

I have a 3g system on my velocity 50. This mod works well. ail and ele gains went from mid 50's to mid 90's with no bobbling or hunting..........
How do the numbers 50's & 90's translate to the gain dials on the unit in terms of clock position?

I am referring to the gain values displayed on the pc when using the 3g interface. The dials on the unit allow minor gain adjustments within a range that is available in the 3g interface screen. The pots on the 3g unit are more of a trim adjustment than a full range adjustment. Hook up the 3g interface and display one of the last screens, the one that displays the values as bars for most of the adjustments ail,ele and tail. Then turn the pots on the unit and you can watch the gain values change. Hope this helps.

Man you guys have enough goop in there. I don't think that you will need any mounting pads under that unit.

im going to try this mod on my 450 pro this weekend. going to try just putting a chunk of zeal in there. if it doesn't help at all i'll move to silicone.

i've been having tail and bobble issues on my450 pro and only bobble on my 6 and 700.

hoping this will help make the tail hold on the pro. it blows out in funnels every time i try.

Who cares... its just money...

I just did this mod to the 3g on my Trex 550. The helicopter was flying(hard 3d) pretty much perfect before the mod, but my gains are somewhat low. I'm anxious to see if I can crank them up and get more performance now.

Too bad I wont get a chance to fly it till Monday.

i just tried putting the zeal in with it setting on a piece of 4010 tape and it was shaking all over the place.

first with zeal and the tabs in there with a 4010/plate/4010 it shook bad.

then i just did 1 piece of 4010. same as above.

then i took tabs out of the inside of the case but left the zeal inthere.

same as above.

then i took the zeal out and put it on a 4010 and the shakes got WORSE like WAY WORSE.

this tells me that adding the zeal to the inside of the case is indeed doing some serious good dampening the vibes from the sensors.

im out of the align tape which i ordered some on wednesday so hoping it shows up today. i'll try with align tape and zeal inside.

i also have some liquid nails perfect glue that feels like a type of rubber cement but doesn't have any solvents in it so i'm going to try that if the zeal doesn't work well at all.

if the zeal inside with align outside works well on the 450 pro im planning on doing the same to my other two units as well.

Who cares... its just money...

Liquid nails, epoxy and other types of glue do not have the same dampening like silicone dose. I would like to know if the plastic tabs rub against the sensors? And if the circuit board vibrated in the case and that is why the silicone seems to fix some sensors?

I just did mine, Yes, the tabs look like they rub the sensors. Depend on how the soldering of the vertical boards. I cut mine and used electronic grade silicone paste. It worked perfect. I shaped it like a cube in the middle of all 3 sensors. I will test fly tomorrow.

so i put the zeal tape back in and mounted on a piece of align tape and it is AWESOME. smoothed it out great im going to play with turning up the gains tomorrow at the field to see if i can get it really track nice. bobbles are gone on the 450. going to do it to the 600 and 700 tonight to see if i get any improvement out of them.

the 450 tail still isn't holding but i think it may be related to something else entirely.

You should post pics of your mod also so we can see what works and we can have different options for the mod if we want.

shoot i just did the 600 and 700 and didn't even think to take a picture.

all i did was put a piece of zeal on top of the rudder sensor that goes up against the two others.

the zeal is taller than the sensors so it gets pressed down into the gaps when you put it back together.

i also broke the tabs off of the inside of the case.

test flight on the 600 and 700 tomorrow for sure.

just wish i had someone to fly with.

you can count the RC heli pilots in this town on one hand.

problem is they all work crazy hours or just like to fly alone :/

Who cares... its just money...

I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Still, I can't get rid of the feeling that you would achieve the same result sticking an additional weight to sensor box
